In "Overland" Mode I pressed the "M" key to get the map.
The game client crashed to the desktop and the MacOS dialogue to restart the crashed program appeared.
Restarting the game client allows me to log in, but everytime the loading screen is done, the client crashes again.

Location - close to North Brisach Forest; current build (472); Multiplayer Online Mode

    OS: Mac OS X 10.11.6

Thank you for reporting. This is a known issue tied to bug task: 43006

We will work to fix it asap.

As a workaround, you can follow these steps to revert the map state.
    1. Right click on the SOTA launcher
    2. select "show package contents"
    3. inside of that, you will find the "Shroud of the Avatar" app
    4. pull that OUT of the launcher
    5. it will work fine

Note that this will require your client to reinstall the entire game fresh the next time a patch occurs.

alternatively, when you want to patch you can move the Shroud app back into the launcher, patch, then move it back out.

I am afraid the workaround doesn't work - game still crashes when the Overland Map should appear. All steps until then work fine.
Will wait for the next build :)

Are you sure you moved it outside of the folder? It's a bit tricky because OSX likes to make shortcuts rather than move things outside of .app files. If you see a little arrow on the icon then it's just a shortcut (see attached). My recommendation is to right click the SOTA.app and copy, then paste it elsewhere. Then for the next patch you would patch as normal, then delete your copy and recopy from inside of the launcher app. Let me know if that doesn't make sense because I feel like I'm talking myself in circles here =O

You were right - works now. I had moved it to the hotbar - moving it into Programs did solve it :)
    Thanks for the help
