What was the time of day/moon/weather? Those do play a part in the darkness.

this subject has had me irritated for years.... there are light spells for a reason (playing at close to lowest settings since ever) few releases for me was unplayable due to intense light from the game -.-

actually, it's one of my peeves that moon phase does NOT affect lighting. the moonlight rises after sunset and sets just before dawn no matter where the moon is in the sky, so no one CARES what the moon phase is.

on the other hand, since they darkened the lit parts, they're actually showing the right amount contrast with the shadows that were too dark in comparison before.

The Video Controls have a Slider for Brightness and Contrast. When pushing the slider all the way to it's brightest level means that in a place like Deep Ravenswood, you cannot see your hand in front of your face even with a light source (Torch, wearable item etc.) then that it is too dark. When it is too Dark on the Overland Map to even figure our where in the H&$$ you are then that is too Dark. We have argued this point for the about 5 releases. Every time we turn around they reduce the lighting again in another release. No one complained about the light levels in R39 so why fix something that is not broken. My point was fix it before we have to go through this again as we are now on a Bug Report in a QA, and have not even gotten into R40. We do not have time for this again. Make the Slider so you can determine how Dark you want it to be at night. My Desk Top monitor looks fine when I turn up the Brightness all the way in R39. However when I do the same thing with an older laptop I look like I'm in a barrel with the lid on. at night, even with the light source.

Thank you all for reporting. This is a known issue with Unity 5.5 and we're working on a fix.
