Like many others I was looking to get my hands on a mossy green handle but didn't have enough $$ to donate to the Aerie Fund to get one so I began killing Torc'Dawl... below are my (lack of) results:

    Kills: 305

    Total Torc'Dawl Weapons
    : 142/305 (47% drop rate)
-Mossy Handle: 1/305 (0.3% drop rate)
-Savage Handle: 36/305 (12% drop rate)
-Rock Maple Handle: 105/305 (34% drop rate)

Salvaging (at GM with a salvaging potion):
-67 Rock Maple = 6 rock maple handles, 1 axe blade, 1307 wood scraps (9% handle salvage rate)
-26 Savage = 0 savage handles, 1 axe blade, 532 wood scraps (0% handle salvage rate)
-Mossy = HA! Not salvaging this after 305 kills for a 6% change at a handle (unknown salvage rate)

@DarkStarr @Chris I suggest we raise the drop and/or salvage rate so that the majority of the ones in the game/economy are player crafted ones. After killing him 305 times and to end up with 0 savage/mossy handles is... maybe low...?

Indeed, the rate on special components is far too low, as Sara's above example dictates. Even on more common items that don't require being able to solo a boss 305 times, the rates are far far too low to make crafting anything with said items viable, once you take into account exceptional rates and RNG even at crafting levels well beyond GM.

Realistically, if you see the component in the weapon (via ctrl-hover) a GM salvager should be getting the component most of the time. Either limit them by drop rates, or limit them by salvage rates - both is just...well, mean.

I agree, the drop rate is really low, but maybe is intended to be like that.
It's a really powerful component, maybe the strongest one.
I can just imagine if all spearmans had it.

There's rare, and then there's pointless, though.

0.3% drop rate * ....what salvage rate ? * exceptional rate * breakage rates for even modest enchant mws ....if you could kill a troll every 5 minutes you'd need to fight them for 5 years to make a decent weapon out of this.

It'd be different if getting the handle meant - yay, I now have a good weapon.
But you'd need 20-30 of these handles to get a nice weapon, and that nice weapon might last you a month or two before it can't be repaired anymore.

The difficulty of obtaining enough components to make a weapon should not completely eclipse the expected lifespan of said weapon....

Yes, as i told i agree, the rate is super low.
Actually we have to take in account the Masterworking/Enchanting failure percentage.

    I agree with this post.

Yea drop rate+salvage luck+exceptional chance+mw breakage+enchanting breakage+skill, gear and level check makes getting a decently made one virtually impossible this happens to be the same argument I tried to make a cpl months ago and failed.

Im pretty sure this math competes with powerball % ;) (a friendly joke)<<fluff inserted.

BTW I would appreciate you guys not using this as YET another excuse to be snarky about the charity auction.

I deleted the offending posts about that but if they start up again I will lock the thread and issue warnings.

Sorry, if mine was one that you considered as offensive. I deleted the minor reference I made just in case you included it.

My communication style might seam abrasive at times, its kinda how I talk. I dont mean to come across at all as hostile to the project im just a forward communicator and as my wife says I could use more fluffy words to illustrate actually how I am meaning to say what I say.

I suppose to say sometimes I might come across as snarky(not a word id use for it, id suggest direct would be better) but its not a intentional intent ( /stares crosseyed at that whole explanation) .

    For the record:
    Im pro sota
    Pro charity
    Pro dev team
    Have lots of time in
    Have lots of investment in
    Share sota in several formats
    Looking forward to retail launch
Want to game to be amazing
Want to make money on my stocks
Want to be playing in ten years
Want the world to see the potential I see

    I hope that helps!

You the man! Drop/salvage rate doesn't have to be high... maybe on average get a mossy handle (after looting it and salvaging at GM) every 100-150 kills and savage handle every 30-50 kills or so...? Thoughts from the other Torc farmers... what's fair?

Thanks for listening (as always) @DarkStarr and keep up the good work. I LOVE THIS GAME YOU'VE MADE!

Of course. Bzus has a JIRA now to adjust. We will turn it up slightly for R50 and see how it goes from there. Stay tuned.

Just a little data point, but with 100 Blacksmithing Salvage, I have never seen anything but metal scrap from salvaging Bandit weapons.

    Great test numbers Sara.

I have 3 mossy axes (two from my friend and I just got one). We did not salvage them yet fortunately :D

My guild mate lvled carpentry salvaging to 120, we will post the result after the fix.

Are bandit weapons supposed to give components/patterns?
