I would think that getting corpse wax and ectoplasmic residue from a skeleton should require the player to harvest them, the same as he would harvest other resources from dead bodies. It would take some time to scrape off, and would also require a knife.

I'm guessing that one reason its not like that is because the way the interface has been implemented makes it a bit difficult -- harvesting is supposed to be done in a single-click, shown by the cursor. In theory, if the harvest requirement were in place for skeletons, you could still activate it through your non-combat bar, but that would be breaking conventions a bit by leaving the player without cues. Maybe there could be a key like SHIFT which switches your cursor between the "looting" cursor and the "harvesting" cursor on bodies where its appropriate. So, on killing a skeleton you'd get a standard "loot" cursor, but when holding SHIFT down, it would switch to your knife for the "harvest" cursor.

Another reason I'm guessing is also gathering corpse wax doesn't seem to be a typical example of field dressing? Though its really just saponified tissues.

    What do others here think?

I'd prefer to just loot them. Then again, I don't find harvesting to be fun.

I would actually like that. But I'm one of those people who could just harvest forever and reap the benefits of selling starter area materials.
