So I thought Yay!, FPS issues fixed in the QA client, time to play live and rock new britannia... but hey, didnt change much at all that can't be right, i've seen the client!

So I spun up my non-steam SOTA client and FPS back to QA testing levels. Somethings not quite right with steam guys, maybe the overlay doesn't like the engine much but native client is definitely as good for me as the QA client, steam client lags bad.

    All the best,

    Azaran

Have you tried running the .exe file directly for the game, instead of using Steam to launch it?
    i.e. \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SotA\Shroud of the Avatar.exe

no, but that defeats the purpose of using steam when the portalarium standalone client works better :)

To save me the trouble of downloading the game a 2nd time just to test this - in an effort to get better FPS - can you try launching the game directly from the Steam directory, and see if you notice any improvement also? :)

Tested- same FPS for me, running through Steam, directly running \SteamLibrary\steamapps\common\SotA\Shroud of the Avatar.exe, and using the downloaded client from the SOTA website.

I'm guessing that it's too late and @Dargalin already fully installed the standalone version.

As i'm a dev+ backer, i have the steam client, qa client and standalone for comparisons :)

I'm just about to try disabling the steam overlay to see if that's what is sapping all the frames.

Running the client from within the steam folder probably executes the same steam dlls for the overlay. you wont notice a difference there. (steam_api.dll and steam_api64.dll)

That's confirmation for me, steam overlay is causing the lag. you can disable it in your steam settings > in-game.
