As for the "engagement" agenda on facebook - I dont have and never will have a facebook account, so please do not create content or otherwise important information there that does not also exist in these forums or on the main site, thank you .

You have no idea how hard I laughed at this. Some of the most expensive neighborhoods in the entire world are freaking dumpy slums in NYC, just cuz the right real estate people hyped a given neighborhood up. You can end up paying 3 grand/mo for a small apartment building infested with rats, crumbling walls, police constantly entering illegally, roaches, the heat breaking down every winter, the electricity going out every summer, with little sound (or sometimes visual) privacy between floors. Sometimes the crappiest neighborhoods become the "most popular."

 

Wants me to have a FaceBook account. Never going to happen.

Much akin to @Womby 's remark, I avoid the platform altogether. SotA content folks can post the content in this forum or on the main website, else it doesnt exist to me. I will be quite disappointed if there is content on FaceBook that is important to my success as a player that is not found on shroudoftheavatar.com.

 

It is a gallery of screenshots of a work in progress. It won't be critical to your success as a player.

Facebook tracks people's activity on the web even if you don't have a Facebook account if the Facebook API is used on a site. So Facebook knows you browse these forums, even though you don't have a Facebook account. That is how brand new Facebook members have accurate ads served to them, and accurate suggestions right off the bat.

You viewing a gallery on Facebook with no account really isn't much different than avoiding Facebook and browsing this site. Either way, they know you like SotA.

 

Not to get too off topic, but I cant fathom browsing the web without Privacy Badger and AdBlock Plus. Naturally the bigger entities like Adobe, Procter and Gamble, Google, IBM, Facebook, etc, have varying mechanisms to create an identity around other metadata like IP or tokens stored locally outside of cookies, but there are varying ways around them as well using basic software with the most common operating systems. A decade's worth of software engineering for big media makes most of this so intuitive for me that I often forget most people just "go along with it" when it comes to evading this particular pathology.

While it may be impossible to determine that "I am not being tracked," I can guarantee that I am poisoning their sample set while never viewing traditional "creatives" in any form. Occasionally I use someone elses computer and see an ad and think, "wtf?! which century are you from?" Itd be really funny if it werent so scifi dystopian.

 

Adblock Plus won't block the Facebook tracking, but Privacy Badger might. I know Disconnect might.

Either way, if you're using those, then what is the objection to then viewing a gallery at Facebook that doesn't require an account?

How much can a person change in six years? I steer away from Facebook because of these Mark Zuckerberg quotes.

 

Zuckerberg and Facebook are evil. But browsing a public gallery without an account (while you're blocking their tracking with extensions) isn't really supporting Facebook.

Facebook only makes money if they can successfully serve you targeted ads.

 

Love the fire coming out of the smokestacks... That makes it come alive!.

 

What do they make in those factories?
