Ok, so I got bored and decided to map the roads of Novia, it was a nice walk. Using the in-game coordinates I located the roads and towns and adjusted the overhead view of Novia to match the in-game values. Use the attached PDF to view the data. I entered some preliminary data for almost all the towns. You should be able to view this with Acrobat.

Oh, I tried to also add the lat/long values from the other maps however there’s a huge amount of distortion as the hand drawn maps don’t match very well with the actual overhead view. But I’ll try again when the rest of novia opens up and I can get more control points in the NW corner.

Links to a couple of really cool maps:
@Birko's updated overhead view with corrected terrain and index grid: link
@Ember's variation using the hand drawn map: link

Agreed. Thanks for putting the work into this. It will help me explore more of the map more efficiently. Im looking forward to using it!

I'll update it when more of Novia is finished. Any other details anyone wants me to add to the towns? When I get a chance I'll add the locations of points of interest (like the various mines, etc.) I haven't decided if I want to do some of the locations as points or polygons (it will take a bit more work to determine the edges of the polygons that cause the enter icon to appear.)

    Awesome!

Do you have a large version of this map? (publicly posted that is)

edit: would prefer png / jpg over pdf too.

Since it's in my GIS software I can export it out to any size you want... just have to make a new layout. What size do you want?

I don't actually have a specific size in mind, but rather I'd like to be able to inspect the map with reasonable detail. Perhaps such that bridges are clearly visible.

Probably at least twice the current size, maybe more?

Where did you get all the data and what app is that you're viewing all that in ?

Keep in mind the Novia image itself was not hi-res so if I enlarge it's not going to get any better details than the original (it's already pretty pixelated). I was barley able to see the bridges (which I used as my control points) and only because I could see the rivers and I couldn't see any of the roads (which is why I collected my own data). My digitized features won't lose any detail though... those will work at any scale. I'll see what comes out. Let me ask this... what's the largest (in MB) file you want to deal with? I'll work around that.

A couple of MB should be fine. Doesn't need to be ultra-detailed. Should be fairly compressed under jpg / png anyway.

I collected all the data manually by using the /loc command in the chat window. I then parsed out all the x,y,z data and loaded it into the same software I use at my office (ArcGIS). I then went and collected some control points (most of the bridges) and registered the Novia image to those. The data about the towns was provided by the town criers (who are kind enough to tell me the number and type of lots) while the map type comes from the /loc command used while in the town. The screenshot is simply Adobe Acrobat... ArcGIS let's me export all the attribute data for the features I collected into the PDF. Acrobat then let's you turn the layers off and on (if you turn all the right sidebars on) and view the data attributes.

Ok, try this. It's just under 2mb, I exported out an 11" x 14" layout to 200dpi with jpg quality at 80. (the one in the first post is 8.5x11")

If I could get my hands on some larger and higher quality screenshots of the overheads I could do a lot better (hint hint)... (I'm used to working with aerial photos with 6" and 3" pixels of our entire county... ) I'd like to do this with the player towns and Ardoris too... now if only I could get my hands on some in-game drones... :p

Cool, that's good for now. Just wanted to have a closer inspection. It would be great if the devs could get a high res map. :)

    Stellar job!

You and Birko should exchange some words, I guess... ;)

Oh, some nitpicking: Vengeance is not a Metropolis, it's a Crossroads Village.

thanks (nitpicking is always welcome)... I'll fix that. Also if anyone has the details on it's lot make up I'll enter that... (being a pvp town and seeing as I was on a quiet stroll I didn't want to go in and bother the town crier at the time.)

Awesome map! Let me know if you need help mapping out the region boundaries, as I had already considered doing that for my map thread.

I'll probably give it a try over the weekend. I want to see if it's going to be worth the effort before I go all out though.
