I just wanted to create a location where we can discuss the current speed of durability loss.

Obviously, we are on an early iteration of this system, and it may change.

How quickly does everyone see their gear degrading?

Is it exceptional? Is it enchanted or mastercrafted?

How much time do you think it will take to reach 0 durability and how much are you using it?

Do you think it is too fast, slow or just correct?

I need to do more testing.

Went the revenswood for like 30 mins killing elder wolves.
In time I was killing my max dur never went down, but my actual dur went down bout normal pace

started with 64/64 ended with 59/64 i think normaly I would have lost at least 2-4 max dur

Considering I hardly ever do repairs, I don't see that being an issue for me.

Also, how high is your [Weapon Preservation] skill?

Yeah, i never had any chance to test this out on QA, but hear that it is reduced to some degree. The exact reduction i am less sure on.

Getting this speed right is core to making the whole durability system work, so my goal is to get feedback where devs can make effective decisions easily.

This is a good point! Another thing to look out for its the use of heavy armor skills which also impact durability use .

I've been raising the two innate skills that will help reduce the durability loss rate. We'll see how it goes.

I started raising both durability stills before this release and I hope to see it help preserve precious items. My biggest concern is my Nightmare mask (reward) which can be worn down. It provides no attack or defense, I just like how it looks. I won't use it until I am sure it won't be degraded.

That's a good point. I have store bought items like that too and it's annoying to see them degrade. There's no real point to having those items degrade if they don't have stats.

@Baron Drocis Fondorlatos I hope this rule is changed too, regarding things purchased and of no combat consequence. Like pledge houses, I hope these items prove permanent. Otherwise I will have to buy up every nightmare mask in the game to keep my look!

Though from books I read as a boy I understand a headless horseman has some potential .....

it would be prudent not to give cosmetic items any durability so there would be no problems with wearing them at any time

True, and yet the armor, weapons, crafting tools, and crafting stations that are pledge rewards or cash-shop purchases aren't strictly cosmetic.

    I'll quote the Princess Bride:

    "
    Vizzini: HE DIDN'T FALL? INDESTRUCTIBLE.

Inigo Montoya: You keep using that word. I do not think it means what you think it means.
    "

Heheh, no, he said "INCONCEIVABLE. " but it's still funny, for the next month anyway. ;)

I didn't get much chance to play with this today, but the little i did made it seem like the rate would wear through my armor in less than a week.

yall want hard data. this is my findings. in less the 24 hours (about maybe 8 hours of game play) this is my suit durability stats apx 24 hours later.

    cloak 90/95/100
    ring 30/39/40
    necklace 30/39/40
    bow 31/56/80 ouch
    hat 68/73/80 brown highwayman hat
    chest 84/91/130
    legs 66/72/80
    gloves 17/22/40
    boots 19/24/40

these stats are all less than 24 hours of game time loss and probably closer to 8 hours of game play.
24 max durabitly loss per day (probably more if i was grinding) means apx every 4 days need to create new bow
hat is a store bought item and it still lost 7 max durabilty so roughly 1 max durability per game play hour. so 80 hours and it will be broken
chest 39 max durabilty lost in a day so 3 and 1/2 days and its done.
legs 8 max durabilty loss so roughly replacing them ever 9 to 10 days
gloves 18 max durabilty loss replace them every 2 days
boots 16 max durabilty loss replace them ever 3 days or less.

that was all based on about 8 hours of game play in the last 24 hours. the cost to make or replace these items as they wear out excede the value of item. as said before in previous post. you wanted data there is the data. ill post the stats again tomorrow to show how it goes. then im off to hobltoft have fun.

Țhanks @Roper Docholiday ! I'm still a bit curious whether ranged and melee will have a huge difference, but numbers definitely will be needed to figure out the state of how it is and how it may need to be.

i think we will have a flux of variances between ranged and mele as some people are much better at kitting and the type of mob they are attacking.

example a really good archer fighting only up close mele mobs may never actually get hit
where a poor archer might get powned in the same archer of same lvl
    vs
the archer attacking creatures with range capabilities.
where they will consistently take damage as well

I think the rate of max durability loss is still too high. Should maybe be halved again.

The gear I came over with from R29 (white iron single enchant) so gloves/boots with 40 durability are half gone after 1 day playing, so will last about 2 days. other items like helm and double enchant weapon might last 3 days?

I have already switched to store bought items + basic iron crafted items + mob drop weapon.
