    Hi Purple Pumpernickel,

We've had a couple of name change policies over the last year, so it's possible you got caught in the middle of all of that. I reviewed the previous change and can get you your previous Govenor tag back, as you've rightly pointed out here.

I will get this done now, no need to submit a support ticket if you do not want to.

    Apologies about the change!

Your forum name is Purple Pumpernickel and you objected to being renamed "Grape"? That's so sad; it makes me feel blue...

This post bugged me greatly! Sadly freedom of speech DOES allow you to do a GREAT NUMBER of things without ANY CONSEQUENCES!
If you doubt this just turn on your television.

Freedom of speech protects you from retaliation, not consequences. You face the results of your action, but aren't the victim of a harmful counterattack.

For example, if you are Jay Leno and make a crack towards Hillary Clinton, you might see a dip in ratings from Hillary supporters and a boost from Trump supporters. Freedom of speech doesn't protect you against that. That's your consequence.

However, it protects you against Hillary retaliating against the joke. Next, before claims of a ban being retaliatory are made, refusing service to someone when they use that service to harm you isn't retaliation; it's self-preservation.

I just happened to look at this thread as it was referenced in something that came up yesterday. Re: the 1 free name change.. can I get a refund for the $25 I spent on my (other account) one name change? I'd gladly accept SC

    @Berek

I personally would like to see Ascii keys disabled when creating a character name. This creates to many names that look identical and opens up the use for scamming. Not a big fan of this feature in name creation.

The free name change is only for those with infractions against their name. If it's a standard name change, the fee applies upfront.

This is baked into our system pretty deep I think, but will bring it up!

As a technicality, a fictional character is not a "person". However, it may run afoul of copyright, obviously.

Man, I really missed out on UO - I had just graduated law school and started a new position. I actually enjoyed working 70-80 hours a week there. But I loved coming home to spend even just 30 minutes on UO. But RL just took over.

That, and the constant death. Can you imagine, having only 3-5 hours a week to play, and having all your **** wrecked in like 2.5 seconds? LOL!

IMHO, I don't think Vader would be such a big deal. Add the "Darth" and plop on a helmet that looked similar, then maybe I'd say the name should be prohibited. But your original point about ASCII characters, that's totally valid.

So, you want to disable a-z, A-Z, 0-9, etc?

Aw that stinks. I used to hunt for IDOCs and I'm pretty sure most other IDOC hunters used some pretty good scripts. I was amazed at how fast and exact they were able to place.

2 am your time might be 4pm to some one else. Detect hidden would have been a good skill.

There was a rumor that a certain player (can't recall the name) on LS had a hack to show hidden players. I don't know how it's possible, because the UO client didn't even have reference to hidden players in memory. But that's another possibility other than malevolent GMs (who definitely existed).

I am more or less referring to letters with the use of diacritical marks.

    Ê å û - for example

    Otherwise you could have

    Cairo Hayden
    OR
    Caìro Hayden

For the average person in-game you may not notice the difference in the letter I in the first name
