NB Astronomy resumes..

About time I thought to start taking some notes again. Given the sky has undergone some changes. The point being to confirm those changes.

It's is 'midnight' Sept 20th 504 PC..

Orange and Green pass true north.

Also, the Sword is passing by which makes September the month of Valor

Note: The constellations should now be traveling East to West. Should like to confirm this over the weekend.

What should not have changed is the planet's orbital durations.

So, I have noticed that the light level of the day does not match up to the time of day as stated in the compass.

I am curious if that means that one is off from the other, and how that might affect your analysis of the constellations as they relate to time.

 

The light levels don't really matter as the time of day as it relates to the real life hour hasn't changed at all. Midnight is the top of hour, every hour and that's the time that matters.

I have noted that light level transition and the motion of the planets are no longer smooth however but these are visuals only with no real affect on anything. But will have to make sure both are reported as bugs if they're not already known.

 

Interesting.. there is a black box moving across the sky.. guessing it moves opposite the sun..

Purple passes true north.. midnight Oct 3rd.

New direction of the constellations confirmed (yay!) Justice is moving into position..

Red and green are aligning just past north.. not close enough to North for confirmation.

So for the first six months Chaos is in the sky, Virtue is in the sky for the final six months.

Personally I'd have liked it better if this were offset by 3 so that we had a different arrangement of months/virtues (Spirituality could work very well for October for example) but we can't have everything.

 

Maybe not, but what they do 'up there' is still very impressive. I hope a lot of things are tied into 'up there' as well like crafting. fishing, bonuses to towns/personal following of virtues for months that are up etc.

 

Well I don't recall anything about effecting blessing.. but fishing is supposed to be best at dawn/dusk already. There have been plans regarding crafting but no firm specifics yet. The basic system should be more or less complete so other plans can move forward now (evidenced by the addition of town sieges).

 

Minor correction to an earlier post.. Spirituality comes before Humility.. duh..

Note: Purple crosses the night sky on odd numbered days..

BTW: For those curious.. yes Astronomy Night WILL resume. Part of the delay which is a little embarrassing.. I seem to have lost my moondial.. which would have been nice to have now that it has real functionality. Also I had wanted to be able to produce astrolabes for the event but it turns out mastering alchemy to make them is a lot of work!

Also been pondering a new time.. probably Sundays around 3pm CST. I wanted an earlier time but don't want to overlap the new regular RP event at 2pm (which is noon my time).

And as I see the clock and in-game is getting dark.. I look up at the sky and see...

Green reaches high in the sky for midnight Nov 8th.. Deadelus is passing.. Blue will probably hit high midnight on Nov 9th or 10th.

Ah I see I already recorded Green.. so to verify its current orbit.. Sept 20 - Nov 8.. is.. err hmm not right. lol That's an hour/day off.. Well to be fair I am observing from a different location at the moment.. (yes it matters).. Will have to observe from my usual spot from now on.

 

Hey I can make those astrolabes, I would even just bring you some for free, just to help out and attend. Don't need to master alchemy, just use a bronze kit morter and pestle, and be on an expert table.

 

Have returned to my original observation spot and retrieved my old notes.. it is midnight Nov 9..

On this night I observe Purple, Orange and Blue at.. wow that's unusual.. what WAS a 3 planet alignment seemed to happen slightly early. I wonder if the server clock is off by about a minute? or if there's an intentional offset for cool screenshots.. Ok so anyway what happened was I expected to just see Blue with the other planets behind when my clock hit 4:00p my time.. instead Purple and Orange had already just past behind so you could see all 3.

I am discarding my earlier observation on Green. It will be about 10 hours before I can check that again and I expect to be in bed at that hour. So this may take awhile to reconfirm everything..

heheh Technically the proper names still aren't the proper names. I'm pretty sure the planets will share names with the 8 Cabalist leaders.. and Richard has been very tight lipped about it. I haven't seen any in-game yet so I don't know if their current place holders have their proper names or not.

 

Hmm you know in order for this to work I still may need to raise my skill.. it's only in the 70s.. think I'd need at least 90.. It's 75 proficiency just to learn the recipe.

 

You have just saved me SO much time and energy.. many thanks! Possibly weeks. As it turns out I was at 75 skill which was already 61% proficiency.. and it was 70 to learn the recipe.. thankfully lots of alchemist stations around.

Ok.. let me see here.. it's coming up on Nov 12.. Orange is predictably in place. Red is rising.. it takes 6 1/2 hours to cross the sky.. looks like it will be a couple more days.. will have to verify of course but I'm guessing it'll be Nov 14th for Red.. Not a very active sky tonight..

No other planets rising.. none setting.

 

I have been watching from serenite. After the next crafting patch, I will try out crafting in certain times and see how it goes.

 

Bowen doesnt have an astrolabe? That's just wrong.
