Some common issues that arose during the Mojave os version were old apps running system process in the back ground, that were incompatible with Mojave and its structure. There were dozens of posts on mac support regarding application memory issues.

Some common discussions were to use malwarebytes and etrecheck (google them) to remove any malware processes or "lingering" or bugged orphaned process started by the OS from old applications.

Being sure in your force quit (apple menu force quit) to remove any unwanted applications. also remember browser windows that are closed still have an open browser on the system unless quit via menu. Browsers can take 500+mb of ram easily with just a couple windows.

There was also a note regarding finder taking up large amounts of ram 4+ gb. There was no definitive solution regarding this posted, but the overall suggestion was to do a non-upgrade clean install of Mojave.

If you still have this issue, and have considered upgrading to Monterey, be mindful that Monterey is a 64 bit os, and isn't very happy with backwards compatible 32 bit apps and processes.

In the sota forums in the command menu, there is also a command line launcher arguments.
In Steam Right click the Shroud of the Avatar Icon, under lunch options type -force-metal
(note the first load of the game using the -force-metal switch will take considerably longer)
This will use Mac's Native Graphical API, and does help with better running and frame rates on older versions of mac OS.

    If this problem persists.
In your applications load the app Console (this is very similar to the windows event viewer)
You should see a section regarding Crash Reports
As well as Diagnostic reports. Information in there pertaining to steam and or shroud of the avatar would prove useful in further narrowing down the issue regarding application memory issues and OSX Mojave.
