That is kind of a good thing IMO...you should have to cary a light source if you are not in an area with lots oflighting.

    I completely agree.

In a world where electricity use is primitive, in areas without lighting you could argue it isn't dark enough.

Hasn't anyone ever been outside at night when there has been no light pollution?

Did the new patch today brighten things up? Everything seems a bit brighter during the nights.

But they could include a gamma slider as people tend to use different brightness settings on their monitors.

Nights too dark confirmed and also the character is dark as well even during the day, it looks like the lighting don't work on the character model

I would prefer a light spell. I'm sure we'll get one in time (0utside of combat I mean). I always used light spells over torches in Ultima games.

That's what I meant by "outside of combat," the current iteration is a combat skill and you can't use them outside combat... yet. We'll get there.

Or perhaps more correctly, "too many MMOs make nighttime seem like a slightly duller daytime" and people just aren't used to night being dark in games, unless you have a torch.

That said, some of the daytime stuff it still a wee bit too dark for my taste, considering it's daytime that's supposed to be represented.

There is a setting in the options menu. Its the last one, but I forget the name. When I had this checked I had horrid gamma issues. I had just upgraded to Windows 8, so I thought initially it was related to my machine. When other games ran fine I unchecked this box and it fixed several too dark issues. Not sure this will fix all the "too dark" complaints, but if the game in general seems to have gamma issue I would try unchecking this option.

When I get home, I will update this with the exact name of the setting.

And if it was real life?

This is after all a roleplaying game and the more realistic elements like that they can add the better will the experience be.

Just an update on my darkness problem.
On my new laptop which is amd based chip and graphics i suffer with it being very dark in game with no direct light even during the day. But on my pc which is old and intel and nvidia based is glorious, all perfect. So it may be a hardware issue and for some it is fine but others it is a bit dark depending on graphics/chip used?

So having to carrying a torch in broad daylight...is a good thing? I think not.

Nope. They darkness drop was rather dramatic between R4 and R5, using the same computer.

Certain hardware configurations could be effected more with the R5 changes is what i was trying to say, badly. It was always darker on laptop anyway but never as much as this. The effects they have done have effected one of my machines but not really the other. It might be a pointer is all.

After I little thought I recant my previous statement of "It's way too dark", I think the darkness makes it more realistic. Pretty sure night time is dark without any light besides the moon, so I would say this is how it should be.

I think the "daytime" is too dark now, it never seems to get bright, before the sun sets again...

The whole day/night progression is too fast, the shadows race across the ground...
