I discovered just HOW bad this is in Etceter Crag Mines. I needed to bypass the ghosts and after a few deaths of just running for it, I opted to go the shadowform route.

You can't use shadowform when you use the light spell (makes sense!) so I cast night sight. It made NO DIFFERENCE to the brightness down there in the mines. It was still pitch black and I couldn't see anything. =P

So basically it needs to increase the brightness and contrast of dark areas when you use it.

On another note, I think Night Sight and Light need their duration increasing by a significant amount - maybe ten minutes or so. I wouldn't mind paying an additional focus cost or a minor focus drain for this. Or maybe REAGENTS could increase duration by a much greater amount. Recasting them every two minutes is just an annoyance I find.

Yeah... it's pretty much worthless. How about a Thermal effect instead?

Or perhaps a fusion of the two where you have the traditional Night Vision, but you outline objects and highlight characters like Thermal?

I know this is all techy, but I'm sure there's a Moon Magic spin that could be put on it.

I'll look into this right meow... (and created a bug in case I can't improve it in the short term)

Yeah, it's been bad for a long time. It especially has problems when you're not looking at an area up close in the dark. It's "almost" better not to use it than it is to use it.

Instead of a duration this kind of spell could lower your maximum focus while active (less reduction the better your skill)
and casting it again could turn it off

And yes night vision could improve

I agree, a built in penalty to something, be it small, might be a nice way to balance it, and make torches more attractive? the 2 minute timer isn't that cool.

That is a good idea. Alternatively some kind of skill penalty to all spellcasting when sustaining a spell such as night vision, light, etc.

K, just changed this to use the HDR to LDR mapper to pull up the minimum brightness in addition to the greening effect. Here is a before and after shot. This will go in the patch for the weekend:

Seriously though : Thanks for the fix, Night Sight has been in a sad state up until now. :)

Would there be any way to make Nightsight not affect health bars and player/mob names? Or the highlighting of selected target? It doesn't really make much sense that pure "UI" things like that would change.

We're missing a few features to do in render space UI well. There are features coming up in the next six months that should let us to this and then we can fix some of those issues. Right now they are just rendered at the same time as everything else so they get all full screen effects. This is also visible in text and name plates getting bloomed so I really look forward to being able to fix this.

Sweet. I thought it was just my colorblind idiocy. (You'd think black and white would be great, but it's actually worse somehow)

Chris, Night Vision has never looked so good. Thank you!

Just trying it out now, so I'll probably have more detailed feedback later. But first impression is very good.

Now we just need to balance Light, Torch, and Night Vision so that there's not a "best" for all situations. Also, why do I want to be level 100 in Night Vision and Light? I think that needs to be clearly defined.

Have you considered just removing the incandescent green?

I mean, this is a pretty strange skill and I don't really understand the logic. It lasts for only about a minute, has a cooldown of 30 seconds - why? The light spell mechanics in comparison are very different. Night sight doesn't seem like it's viable.

I think the green effect is a nice balance for the great visibility benefit it gives and is kind of what people expect when they are seeing in the dark.

As for the duration, I think it starts at a minute but last an extra 2 seconds for each point in it. So with a 60 skill it will last 3 minutes.
