Details: When you agree to help Charlotte Grey in the Solace Bridge Massacre scene, the chat window tells you: You received an item (Summon Charlotte Gray) from Charlotte Gray.

A summoning whistle is added to your inventory, but you don't need it and even if you did, there is no explanation on how to use it. Later, when you are in Soltown, the whistle has disappeared from your inventory. This can be very confusing to new players. If the whistle is not needed, it shouldn't be mentioned or added to your inventory.

As Charlotte is a temporary companion, a summoning item is required for her to accompany you.

 

plus if she has any pathing problems, like so many NPCs in escort quests can have sometimes, the ability to re-summon her to avoid such issues without having the quest get stuck or ruined is a godsend, this item alone was my favorite thing added this release.

 

I haven't played through this scene. Is there something in the text that explains it? Like.. "Please use this whistle to let me know when the coast is clear!" ...?

 

I guess I'll go ahead and add that text... I've been fighting it but clearly it's important that it needs to be added.

 

I placed it in the hot bar in the #2 slot when she disappeared-- she couldn't path to the stairs down off the bedroom floor of the house. I clicked it and "poof" she reappeared. So I found it useful.

 

Is she supposed to follow us, and we use the summons to get her if she gets lost?

The reason I ask is that Charlotte disappeared the moment I said YES. Let me know if I need to enter a bug report. I was going to till I saw this. However I was able to summon Charlotte once I crossed the bridge and spoke with Edvard.

 

This is a tutorial scene for new players who haven't a clue how to use a summoning whistle.

@Lum - there should be something that tells you to drag the Summoning Whistle down to your peace bar and to click on it only after you have gotten to safety because it only has one use.

Otherwise, a new player does not know how to use the whistle and also might click on it once to see what it does before crossing the bridge and then not know what to do after that.

btw, once I actually did lead Charlotte across the bridge the old fashioned way [with her following me, one slow step at a time] just to see if that could work. It does work, but the whistle makes it much easier.

 

We do not want to encourage players to use the summoning whistle for that exact reason. It is intended in this case only for use in case of a bug that causes the NPC to flake out and disappear.

 

New player won't know how to use it. Cant double click it. All items must be place on the hotbar to activate.

 

We'll add that to the description on the item.
