The Council of Scribes will be a player run group similar to the College of Arms that will be working with the Development team, under my guidance, to help us find the player lore that will fill the official libraries of New Britannia and provide feedback and guidance to aspiring authors who wish to hone their craft. The council will be lead by a Triumvirate of Masters, defined as:

    Master of the Council
To gather, keep, and progress the Libraries of Novia

    Master of Lore
To gather, keep, and protect all things Lore related in Novia

    Master of the Scribes
To teach, train, and assist the Scribes of Novia

They are currently seeking about a half dozen members interested in the following roles. If you are interested in applying to fill one of these roles, please contact Winfield (feel free to CC FireLotus :))

    Lore Keepers
For those who seek to gather, keep, and protect all things Lore related in Novia or her regions.

    Scribes
For those who seek to document and assist as an editor and author of Novia.

Hopefully not; maybe this is just a way to "bless" certain works as "official" or whatever.

You can once player published books are online. However, this section is meant is for the books that we (the Dev team) will be populating the game with as officially recognized player fiction and lore.

Well, I understand the need for canon works. But along that line, if I want to write fiction works I assume that is "good" and there is no "oversight" on people's work.

If I want to write "non" fiction works, we run through this committee? Is there more information about how this works in terms of voting or what not?

You mentioned you have a few people already, so I hope they get first dibs, and people who are already running other circles or user run systems of the game will be considered last for "new" positions.

    Cheers.

If you want to write your own fiction without submitting them for consideration for official in-game use, you never even have to interact with teh Council. However, they will be a wealth of information and a valuable resource available to those who wish to interact with them. If you don't, you can still keep posting Fan Fiction in FireLotus Tavern, just like before. :)

The committee is still forming, and as it does, we will be posting more information on logistics and such. :)

But I cant use these resources if I dont post through them?

Sorry, I am trying to get a clear answer here. Simple question time:

    1) There are resources, from this council, that I can choose to use if I am writing for ingame use or not?

    2) If I don't go through the council, I cant use any of those resources, because I am not "submitting them for consideration"?

    3) If I dont post through this council, then I can only get stuff into the game, either IN CANNON OR NOT, with the user publishing mechanism?

I never said you couldn't use them as a resource. Quite the opposite, the work they do gathering the Lore into a resource will be accessible and can be used by everyone.

    1) There are resources, from this council, that I can choose to use?
Yes, there will be a wiki site they are putting together. More info on that to come.

    2) If I don't go through the council, I cant use any of those resources, because I am not "submitting them for consideration"?
Anyone will be able to go to the wiki and research information. Now, if you want help editing something, or feedback on something you've written, you'll have to chat with someone. ;)

    3) If I don't post through this council, then I can only get stuff into the game, either IN CANNON OR NOT, with the user publishing mechanism?
Correct. Unless the work is approved by myself and the Dev team, it will need to be published using the player publishing mechanic. The council is simply assisting us with the organization, sorting, and review process.

I presume members of this group will gain access to the canon story as it so far exists, for the purpose of enforcing consistency and coherency between story arcs?

Somewhat. But some things will still be kept internal to the Dev Team to avoid spoliers, which is why I am working with the council very closely and will make those calls when needed.

How does this apply to specific background stories? I have one I have been working on for quite some time, which is being developed specifically to provide background lore for the specific scenario I'm designing. As a personal 'journal', it wouldn't be considered 'lore', and wouldn't necessarily be found anywhere in the game except the scenario itself, unless transported by players.

I said specific a lot of times there.

That would probably be something best created as a player published book, Bubonic. Though books written about player towns, events, or interactions are perfectly acceptable for submission as to the Council as well.

This all sounds very interesting! Hmm..being a Scribe does have a certain appeal, especially as I plan on exploring uncharted areas of Novia and documenting what I uncover :D Maybe I should consider applying...
