Ok Some Info On Taming . . . . :-)

Ok been out working some taming to flush some stuff out.

Taming Collar - Takes Animal Collar, 2 Silver Ingots, and Mortar and Pestle on Alchemy Station
Animal Collar - 2 Leather Straps, Metal Binding, Tailor Scissors on Tailoring Station

To Tame you can use the taming skill in either non-combat or combat bar but once engaged combat will start.

YOU CANNOT MOVE WHILE TAMING, it will interrupt and use a collar.

Pick your target make it the active target and engage Taming, The target can be taking damage from anything / anyone but actions by you will interrupt it.

If you successfully tame the pet will disappear and you can use a Summoning whistle after that to bring it out of the Stable. There is a LONG cool off for summoning (Which can be broken with death). Taming raises on success AND Failure - I do not see a difference between target and gains made. It looks like you can gain same of a wolf or an obsidian wolf. It also appears you can stand on a rock (out of range for damage) and still tame.

Here are some of my results - The target can be beaten down to increase taming chance

Level 16 - Chicken (Kingsport) 64% Chance
16 - Sheep (Kingsport) 60%
16 – Sheep (Owls Head) 60%
16 – Grey Wolf (North Valeway) 54% - Tamed on first try
16 – Lg Grey Wolf (Greymark) 38% - Tamed 2 both on 3rd Try (Still Level 16)
16 – Lg Grey Wolf (N Ravenswood) 38% - Tamed on frist try
16 - Timber Wolf (North Ravenswood) 14% - Success on 5th Try and Went from 2/3 on 16 – 17  Gained on Fails 
17 - Timber Wolf (N Ravenswood) 14% - 6 fails – ½ to 18
17 - Timber Wolf (N Ravenswood) 14% - tamed on 5th try –3/4 to 18
17 – Lg Grey Wolf (N Ravenswood) 38% - tamed on 1st try –7/8 to 18
18 – Grizzly Bear (N Ravenswood) < 1% - 10 Fails but –1/2 to 19
18 - Lg Grey Wolf (N Ravenswood) 39% - tamed 4 in 9 tries and Timber Wolf 14% Tamed on first try to bump me to 19 ( I did this to see if taming <1% made any Difference to Gains ½ was 10 try each soooooo)
19 – Brown Bear (N Ravenswood) 49% - 1st try
19 – Lg Timber Wolf (S Ravenswood) <1% - 10 Fails – 1/3 to 20 (I am guesing same exp per tame – as taking more to go from 19 – 20)
19 – Elder Wolf (S Ravenswood) <1% - Gave 4 Tries before I died 
19 - Grizzly Bear (S Ravenswood) 33% ( this bear was almost dead from fighting a Satyr) I went around corner and tried to tame another grizzly and it is < 1% so calling in reinforcements to help beat things down.
19 – Lg Grizzly Bear (S Ravenswood) <1% ( so I Summoned my Earth Ele and beat him down to his last breath and had an 11% Chance) Sooo the health of the target can be lowered to increase the change at success 
19 – Red Spider ( Mysterious Swamp) <1%
21 – Lg red Spider (Deep Ravenswood) <1% ( had some friends come and beat it down and tamed it after 29 tries) I was 8% chance at low life and me at 21
22- Small Crocodile (N Celestial Wetlands) 42%
22- Crocodile (N Celestial Wetlands) 24%
22 - Desert Wolf (East reach) – 8%
22 – Lg Desert Wolf (East reach) - <1%
22 – Corpion (East reach) – 24%
22 -Large Artic Wolf (Vertas) <1%
22 – Large Polar Bear (Vertas) <1% (Full Health) ((Beat down 9% tamed on 9th try)

At 22 It appears every wolf above Lg Timber is <1%
Grizzle bear is 5% - all other Bears are <1%
Lg Stag <1%

That's should cover all the critter out there avail I will train up to 30 - 35 and run again and put up those numbers

Ok Went out and tamed the Polar Bear 20 Times (or failed and went from 23 - 24, ill keep going
22 Attempts 24 - 25
24 Attempts 25 - 26
27 Attempts 26 - 27 :-(
23 Attempts 27 - 28 BTW that is 83.7% Effective
26 Attempts 28 - 29
28 Attempts 29 - 30 and now 86.6% effective (( Yea that was ALOT of collars, Devs something really out of whack here ))

I will go out and get some numbers for more critters and update list - I expect it to get easier as I level but you can look at the raw numbers and doo some math.

 

Does the collar get consumed if you fail? Now I'm wondering if I lost mine because I moved.

 

Yes As stated Collar gets consumed on use AND if you move and interrupt it :-(

 

Ok I hit leve 30 as you saw - here are some new numbers - Level 30 = 86.6 % success (31 will be 88%)

At level 30

Sheep = 69%
Lg Grey Wolf = 47%
Lg Timber Wolf = <1%
Grizzly Bear = 7%
Lg Grizzly Bear = < 1%
Timber Wolf = 23%
Lr Brown Bear = 39%
Sm Red Spider = 13%

 

I'm not sure if you noticed, but you can improve your % success in taming by bringing the health of your target down considerably. This is how I've managed to tame the Obsidian bear and wolf.

 

I stated that in the first post - <1% chance on a Large Polar Bear but when beat down to almost death was 9%.

 

Thats why I missed it. It is the only place you actually mentioned that.

Ok if you noticed simply not exact but -

From my start at level 16 - Level 30

I have increased percentages of taming certain creatures roughly 9% :-(

 

If you want some specific info on a special type let me know.

We have found out that a Large Polar Bear and an Obsidian Bear are pretty much =, if you have any pet you want to test I have the Lg Polar - we figure it is the highest tier out three at this time.

The Large Red Spider when Tame was a push over compared to its wild counterpart.

Remember to beat them down first otherwise you will prob die , or you can get lucky and get one that it fighting a skeleton or something and tame it before ti dies

Ok Out again burned thru almost 1/2 the silver that fell from a Starr, so I figured I go out and tmae a little more . . .

To go from level 30 - 31 took 33 Attempts which gives an 88% effectiveness. Also; Level 23 Obedience (17.3% Tame Modifier), 23 Combat Training (+2 Tame Level Bonus), 23 Refresh (Tame Cool down Modifier(Summoning symbol there so I am guessing summoning cool down modifier))

31 - 32 took 28 Attempts ad it looks like all the inmate's are about 1/2 23 - 24

32 - 33 took 32 attempts and kept count so Innate's 23 - 24 was 66 Attempts at taming. I will have to look at summoning a bunch to record more.

 

BTW at 33 Taming I am at 90.8% Success but still have <1% chance on an Lg Artic Wolf - soooo I have now idea how that works :-(

 

Is there a point to raising Summoning past 10? Where do you get all that silver for the collars? I have been mining Graff Mines and I dont get a lot. What is your preference on pets? I am like wolves a lot.

 

Have you tested to see if your Adventure level is an attributing factor to your %chance ?

 

It probably should but I am not going to try since 1 Adv level takes forever to gain and the differ will prob be minuscule, they have stated ADV level shold not affect much at all in the future, true it will go up more in R23 in releveance to gainig points to use on skills but...
