i looked up tonight. first time in a while this release.

devs have done a pass on the cosmos recently. it looks REALLY freaking good, folks. and the sunrise was just as amazing, watching a flock of birds flutter past the daystar and seeing their shadows play on the distant mountantops..just wonderful. was on top of my knight marshal house in ravensend with a great view. it would only be better in in a coastal town.

no screenshots - look yourselves folks. worth it.

thank you for paying attention to that level of detail.

Stare at it from the Kingsport docks so you get the sound of gulls along with it.

Just the clouds do look strange. More like flat mist drifting by high above you.

aye, strange..but then again, strange world with strange magics flying around, wouldn't that cause oddities in the environment?

Yes, it is awesome. The shattered moons needs more depth to it.

Yes, along with so many aspects of our world, the sky is gorgeous in this game! I generally wonder around in awe of my surroundings more than I have an any other game.

Big kutos to the art and development team on an EPIC gaming world!

That, and I think they could manage some form of phasing to it. Wouldn't take much work.

this has me curious - why phasing for the moon? as it is environmental most of that timing and computation could be done on the local client with minimal sync.

As there are already quest elements involving the phase of the moon, and not everyone will have a moondial to use to determine the phase, a quick visual reference would be both a nice atmospheric, as well as functional, touch.

Also, as it is either a flat image or a model, either would take minimal work to create and be triggered with a simple flag.

This also ties in to the lunar rifts, as the location they connect to is supposed to be tied in to the moon somehow, either through phases or simple position of the moon in it's orbit. This could also be controlled through a simple computation, as it is right now, and identified with a visual of the stone to which the rift ray is attracted.

The only thing I could see as being an issue, is if the game changed the phase of the moon in the same way the older games did (VERY quickly), which could be a bit weird given our usual understanding of the way astronomical patterns work.

Something that might be used in that regard, then, would perhaps be that the phase is determined not simply by the amount of light reflected from its surface, but rather the strength of its magical, mutagenic emanations... something that may need a special instrument to see. Perhaps a pair of goggles, that when worn show that level of power as ascending, receding, null or full? Just a thought... but for now... a little more depth to it would be cool :D
