    Hi all.

I had the feeling something is missing for me on the overland map.

I made a realy simple , very simple Demo of what i think would improve the living feeling of the overland map.
I am aware that the music is something wonderful, but maybe if we turn it off we could have something like this.

Just a simple me fooling around with background sounds.

But you can see how this can impact the atmosphere huge i would say.

Totally agree. If the overland map is supposed to be an interactive, dynamic experience -- another layer of exploration, essentially another world to explore vs. a flat physical paper map that shows an abstraction of our travel -- then yes, it needs all the bells and whistles as if we were in any scene.

I know Mel just got some new foley gear for recording environmental sound. I'll be getting a similar setup early next year as well so we can get some high quality sounds recorded for things like this if needed. :)

Sounds like frogs croaking at night would be easy to get where I live come spring. Lots of wildlife around here.

Really like the idea of adding more ambiance to the overland map!

Great! But I think the soundeffects should vary depending on the time of day (more owls and crickets at night and more birds during the day - also I love the sound of wind blowing through trees!) and weather (provided we get weather on the overland map some day ;) ).

Kevin Fishburne, who is creating Sanctimonia and Sylph, released some public domain sound effects a while back. Included in those are the sounds of Summer Insects, Sea Wash, Water, Rain, Thunder (and in the distance), Wind, and various fauna. There are also various footstep sounds across various terrain. Since these are public domain, they can be used in any project, including Shroud.

You can see all of the Sound Effects we have at the Digital Lycaeum. If you have any you would like to share with other fan developers, let us know!

Brilliant work. I like the idea of making everything quieter during the night cycle.

The sound design will make or break the entire immersiveness of the game. Even the smallest sound cues can have a huge effect on the sense of place.

I don't believe this is accurate. It certainly didn't break minecraft.
