I know what we are all thinking. The Ultima Online trailer. We need something that explains the initial STORY with just as much emotion and suspense. Noone is going to bother spending the time required to do the story lines unless they are captivated into an initial narrative that pulls them. And for gods sake, we need some truly emotional/dramatic music!

The UO trailer needs to be "cute" compared to the emotional railroad we put people through this time. A PLEA ANSWERED? Who will hear the desperate calls?

Oh I agree with this. Is there a reason to not have a cut scene in this game anywhere especially at the beginning of the game to give a feeling? This intro tells so much even without words.

Well... yes. I agree that this intro is awesome.

But to be clear, I would never expect something this high budget from Portalarium, they simply don't have the resources. In my opinion the STYLE and PRESENTATION of the introduction is fine... its the STORY/WRITING that is the issue.

Give us powerful, meaningful, enticing lore. A true, dramatic introduction to the world of New Britannia.

The legacy of Ultima and @Lord British deserves it.

That just gave me goose bumps lol! Id Software's Rage right? I thought I heard them talking about the 'Ark'.

@Bubonic's hit it on the head, they just don't have the cash for a great cinematic a la UO. Everyone these days who doesn't have the money just uses animated concept art, Guild Wars 2 does this very well as far as I can remember (it's been a while).

But yeah, the writing's just a bit off somehow.

"Tonight began for you as many others, wandering the Internet. A click here, an update there. Following the various trails of your friends, both real and digital. Another evening searching for something itching in the back of your mind, something familiar yet... unremembered."

Just scrap the first part even:

" Another evening begins searching for something itching in the back of your mind, something familiar yet... unremembered."

P.S: My personal favourite intro is U8 (UO is a close second). You have been a thorn in my side for far too long Avatar!

Words are great, though, especially with voice acting by Lord British,

That looks pretty sweet. The problem with Bethesda, though, is that they just absolutely refuse to do a Linux version of anything, even though they have no issues making Playstation and Mac versions.

[edit] I actually liked the SotA intro, BTW.

I have a hard time believing that running into the moon would have zero spin result on this asteroid. Physics. Not important in intro cinematic I guess.

Well it's not as much the game intro being all that bad as for me I wanted to see maybe a cut scene telling what's going on now that we're in this new world. Perhaps Something about what's going on like scenes from a battle, but it's just my opinion.

Well if you're into the whole TRON thing...

Which is proof you can do GREAT things in 2D. It doesn't have to be a 3D Studo Max Mona Lisa. Here's a real belter:

There two absolutely fantastic games!!! agree about there is no need to create the best visuals for anything as we saw in hundreds of games in the past.

You get a package with a coin in it (from Rild!) which is cool, so you set it on your desk next to your keyboard. When you start to play the game, you get some Snowcrash-type static on the screen, maybe similar to something the Oracle has going on, and the coin starts to glow and do some magic-hoo-doo and kick off some sparky effects. Freaked out, you knock it to the ground where it begins to get brighter and grow in size, until it's a full-fledged lunar rift. It calls to you, so of course, you enter.

    @DarkStarr @Lord British @Lum the Mad @Sannio

Bumping this one last time in the desperate hope that a developer will take the temperature of this thread and realize this is not only the opinion of a few scattered people.

Current intro is pretty amazing imho. I love the thought of searching the web and discovering this massive secret.

Glad that you've changed your opinion on the matter. I think it's a very "meta" intro and I honestly don't see how it could be improved upon. Maybe it's too smart? I could see that possibly being an issue.
