What I stated was factual, not an opinion either negative or positive. When someone comes in here demanding a game be developed even "better" than Skyrim or Witcher2, sometimes giving the numbers in a pre-Alpha stage gives them perspective.

Skyrim was a full blown production. But it wasn't me who brought up those comparisons. I only gave numbers for the games the original poster was comparing. I agree, you can't compare them. But to expect a full blown game when less than $3 million has been raised so far is beyond realistic.

    An observation:
Wit is all fair and good, but it is not a substitute for sagacity. Wit is appropriate when joking, but it is not the tool to use when making an argument.

I have to agree. It amazes me when people act like Richard Garriott is a failure. The guy just spent time up on the International Space Station as a freaking astronaut, and has been a respected and known game developer pretty much since the introduction of computer gaming. Not all projects succeed, it's true, but I personally think his successes have far overshadowed the bad.

Not to mention, most of the RPG's these goofball naysayers are enjoying today wouldn't even exist if it wasn't for the "founding fathers" of the genre like Garriott. This is an interesting article on the topic for those of you who haven't read it: Ultima: The most important game series ever

    Hey everyone,

Thanks for all of your feedback and voting in this poll. It has been invaluable to see what everyone else liked or thought could be improved so that the Devs know how to plan for and what to expect with the Release 2 in January.

As someone who started this thread for a very specific purpose, I would respectfully ask that we refrain from debating each other's opinions in this thread and just let them be, or PM them instead, or start a different discussion thread. This would allow others to speak and offer their opinions on Pre-Alpha Release 1 if they had not yet done so.

    Thank you.

Even Torment: Numenara raised 4.5 million during Kickstarter. Of course I have no idea if they've even shown a working alpha yet. It will be interesting to play it for sure.

lol, despite the best efforts of the OP, this thread has degraded into a flame war. I was wondering how long it would take until I saw that type of thing on the SotA forums and all of my questions have been answered! I don't mind it though, because for me, it's par for the course on most forums from time to time. Whenever you get a large group of people together with different ages, cultures, and interests, there is bound to be some form of disagreement or conflict.

I propose to delete from the post 113 to the end, it would be a shame that very good initial evaluations of the R1 will get lost.

    3 things...

First... The pre-alpha was brilliant considering SotA's time constraints, modest budget and small development team. The conversation system will be phenominal once fine tuned. The graphics are looking beautific, vibrant. And the niggling UI issues will be worked on and fixed.

Second... perfection takes time. The dev's are bending the time-space continuum to create this project AND they started from scratch. I don't think they deserve the harsher nevativity and criticism they have been dealt.

Third... Richard Garriott is a success. He knows his stuff. Ultima 4, 5, 6, 7, 8, 9, Ultima Online. (these are the greatest RPG's in the world).

Guilty on the MineCraft part! :) Games to me have never been about looks, it has always been about the feels. I play a game like War Thunder for example, and it is beautiful. But when I am diving on a BF109 all I am doing is concentrating on the gameplay, there is simply no time to stop and enjoy the graphics.

That is just one example, there are many more as to why personally I prefer how the game plays than how it looks.
