Do we need Anonymous Login to maintain privacy?

  1. Yes - I want to control when people know I'm in-game

  2. No - I should have no control over others being notified when I'm in-game

    Hey there,

It would be nice to log in as invisible and have some privacy regarding when we're in-game. Many MMO's offer this feature.

I made a poll. Click it please!

Delete all of your friends and nobody will know when you are on. Simple

I have no one on my friends list. Problem solved.

However, if you'd like to be more social than me that's going to be difficult if you also want to have some control over who see's what. I wish they'd improve on this. Whoever is making these decisions appears to have little understanding of how PVP works. :)

Unfortunately, that's our rapid transit system. In other words, give us runes!

Not my transit system but I see what you are saying. Still, no option for hiding and I doubt there ever will be. Tag PvP and they will see a ? on the 'Nearby Players' box

    That doesn't work though.
You still get a notification whenever someone logs in online - regardless if it is in single player or multi player.

What's wrong with having a rune system? It's certainly more immersive and logical than people friending each other for an easy teleport.

Option: the ability to bind to all your residences.

Not if it's only certain groups of people you don't want knowing you're online.

Do you know the history of the Rune System in Ultima Online? It was born of a bug... Originally the Mark/Recall spell worked exactly as the Recall scroll works in Shroud of the Avatar. You can have a single point marked, and Recall to that one point. If you wish to change the Recall point, you must 'forget' the previous one. And considering that the same men designed both games, that in and of itself should be telling.

In the early days of UO, the whole concept of a game as a service was brand new. UO was forging new territory, and they stumbled and fell on many occasions. One of the early issues was fixing bugs introduced in a timely fashion. The number and criticality of bugs was large and high. So, when a bug was introduced with the Mark/Recall spell that allowed players to mark multiple locations, there were more important issues to address, and the bug remained in game for months.

Once they got around to having the bandwidth to fix it, it had become ingrained as part of the game, and it was producing other consequences such as the sheer number of runes in game being problematic for the database, affecting performance. This was the driving factor in the creation of Runebooks... And the bug became a feature evermore.

The effect of Runebooks was multifold. They became yet another tool for the unscrupulous to prey on the unwary, or the uninformed. But the biggest effect became that the space between the marked points in your runebook became irrelevant. Britannia ceased to be a Land, and became a collection of disjoint Points of Interest dictated by each individual's collection of runes.

As Richard and Starr have shown little inclination to repeat the mistakes of the past... No.

A further consequence was that no one knew where anything was anymore. I traveled by foot and asking directions was usually fruitless.

I would like it if there were no log in notifications for single player. I do a lot of crafting and managing of vendors, so people always have a lot of questions about prices, special orders, when things will be in stock, etc. Normally I don't mind answering any questions that anyone has, but sometimes I'd rather just play and be left alone without being rude to anyone. It's not a big deal, but there's also not really any downside to allowing it.

This would be a blessing to Guild Leaders too. They get no rest. It's not about being anti-social. It's just about taking some time for oneself.

I am not sure how having a long friend list you can port to either doesn't also make those mistakes, or improves on those mistakes. The only difference is a static list of ports, and one that changes and you may have to port to a spot close by.

Not only do I want to be able to turn off when I see other people logging into the game, I also want to be able to turn off when they see me logging into the game. I don't mind that they can see if I'm logged on and where I'm at in the friends list though. It's only the stupid chat messages that I have a problem with.

I wish there were runes as well or at the least guild chapter house ports.

Hiding on the other hand I don't think they would implement. I do understand as well needing downtime. I just tell people I'm busy. Usually I am always busy lol.

I'd like to, at least, be able to recall to all my own homes and perhaps guild houses. I don't agree, at all that the current system is "drudgery" however. No, sir, I don't.
