How about its just a map for reference and not how you play the game?

What concerns me a bit is that "many" people voted that they like the map as it is now, without further improvements. I mean, really? No more improvements? This would then be the "final" version. No animals, no gypsy wagons, no dragons etc. Just a cloth map with a flag on it and some paper waves and paper clouds? This would then be a much bigger step backwards from what was initially shown than a paper map with animals etc.

    is everything.

Maybe then can eventually just give us runebooks so we never have to use it.

We had now a couple of polls regarding the overland map. Sure they give not a representative result, but still everytime the same tendency. I've wrote so much about this topic. Again: Portalarium, please switch back to the Kickstarter 3D overland map. That was really the map style i'll love to see.

The actual cloth map is... very pre-alpha. :p Mayve in the R6 we can see a much better one and we could compare really both, 3D and cloth map. But, I dont know, 3D was pretty finy, and they could improve that one also.

I think the devs should definitely clear a few things:

    - will there be animals roaming around on the cloth map, wolves, birds etc. (paper animals or symbols)
    - will there be encounters on the map, either random or with monsters roaming around (paper monsters or symbols)
    - will there be dragons flying around (paper dragons or symbols)
    - will there by gypsy wagons and merchants driving around on the map (paper wagons or symbols)
    - will the flag be exchanged for an Avatar
    - will there be more functionality on the map, for example hole up and camp
    - will there be a day/night cycle and weather on the map

Those are important factors for people forming their opinion about the new and old map.

I did vote for liking it, because I do, but yeah, I guess I should have clicked with improvements.

Just like in the old 2D RPG games :)

Happy with the current map though I"m open to improvements - as I believe most of those who voted "I like it" are. It blends the way it used to be (which I"m very fond of) with the up2date 3D graphics the Unity engine can bring.

I think it's safe to say you can add the liked it crowd to liked it with improvements.

It still isn't responsive enough. I'm not sold on the style either.

Well, I'll reiterate my stance here. Can't help myself.

I hate the new style, BUT I could live with it IF:

    1) We get an animated walking avatar with WASD movement (this is the most important).
    2) It continues to improve in quality and ease of use as seen from R4 to R5
    3) We get wandering merchants, monsters, animals, etc.

I voted that I don't like it and probably won't ever like it. The art direction is a big turn off for me, but I could fall into the "with improvements" category, assuming they are the right improvements..

I hope that we get answers about what is planned for the map in terms of making it more alive with animals etc. and in terms of functionality soon.

The R5 map is improved, but I truly wish they'd stop dumping time into something that I hope they abandon and go back to the original map that we preferred.

When you have a small staff and limited time for development, why sink a bunch of time into something that people clearly don't want?

For all those who want a direct comparison between the two maps:

Surely there are other threads for old map vs new map? Its not even a contest, the old map would win every time, but still...

I like the map just fine the way it is, and I'm sure they have more refinements planned.

I really fail to see how it matters so much that people are so vehement about it. The game is played in the hexes, not on the overland map.
