I've never liked the postal service of games like WoW where you just type a character name and post gets delivered instantly.

In the spirit of immersion *cough* I'd like to suggest/request the following system.

    Items required:
    Blank paper (already in place)
Postbox (crafted and/or (fancy) store bought) - only people with a postbox will be able to receive mail

    System:
    1. You write your letter on the blank paper (system already in place)
    2. a. You drop it in someone's postbox at their home. Postal fees won't apply.
    b. You give it to a town crier, who then keeps it until someone using the mail delivery system (already in place), hands it to the relevant town crier where the recipient stays. X amount of postal fees will apply.

    Notes:
    1. I haven't given thought to posting items. Maybe a fee based on the weight of the parcel? However, the postal service suggestion is more focused on written mail and not so much items.
    2. The postbox will serve as a drop only container. No rummaging through personal mail.

    ~7 Day a Week Lot Stone Delivery~
I tried delivering 2 packages from one to town crier to another and back again. I got about 100 gold each way and I had to wait at one point for the town crier to wake up and get back on duty before delivering the 2nd package.
With that said, someday our personal in game finances will become easier to afford such things as 100 gold for some delivery. Maybe 100gp isn't too much to ask for when placing a message on top of or into the owner's "lot stone", because I don't want to get any sort of vendor, advertisement junk mail ... But I can see where free delivery within a POT by it's Governors would be extremely appropriate :D!

I like the mail quest. Why not just have it transfer real mail? Everyone gets their mail from the town crier and mail continues to be delivered from it. The quest would only be available when there is mail to be delivered. Just make it so the mail can only be held for a few hours before resetting back to the origin for a new carrier if not delivered.

At least this part is already possible.

One of my neighbors has made a mailbox out of a wooden storage chest balanced atop a small ankh (both craftable). Ingenious, I thought.
