Question about Crafting and Proficiencies

    I feel I am getting the hang of crafting for the most part but I am not totally understanding proficiencies. I have a recipe that states it needs 65 carpentry proficiency and I have 66 in carpentry but I can not learn it.

    What am I misunderstanding on this?

    mouse over the skill in your skill tree. there'll be a proficiency level in the text.

    edit: and now that there isn't someone sleeping on my chest: in depth
