[Question]Will our forum names be reserved in game?

As backer #760 I was hoping that the jerk (gotta be the same nerd!) who always grabs my name doesn't beat me to the punch in SOTA. Can you tell me if our forum/account names will reserve our in-game names?

I'd like to reserve a name more fitting for use in game rather than a screen name, but this is a good question.

 

Royal founders and founders will get to pick their "last names" before benefactors. It's one of the perks.
Benefactors due to the beta access will get to pick before whatever the next type will be called.

 

Character last names will be picked at the same time as you get to chose house lots, INGAME ( Not via forums or site )

 

In SWTOR, you don't have a last name/legacy name right off the bat. Players have to play long enough to unlock it. This is good in two ways.

1. You give the players a sense of accomplishment and encourage them to keep playing.
2. People who try the game and walk away early aren't tying up a name forever that others may want.

I always interpreted that pledge reward that people with that perk (Is it in the Founder Ancestor tier?) get to pick last names on day one at character creation. Other players will have to advance to a certain point to unlock a last name.

I am pretty sure the answer is no.

 

I would go ahead and think of a good back up name just in case. No one can steal your true avatar essence.

Does this imply that last names are required? Hm, does it also imply that first names are required if a last name is specified?

In anycase, I hope there is an option to display only the first name if desired... It's sort of interesting that you've got to chat with NPCs before their names are known, but players potentially run around and blurt out their first and last name to everyone before proper introductions.

but think about it, you would have to have a char made in order to go select a lot
so lot selection day is also.... birth-of-our-first-(persistant, live, non-testy)-char-in-brand-new-shiny-RG-game day.

suggestion for devs then:

let all pledges log on a couple days before for just a day or two so we can make our chars? i mean you can hold us in the starting newbie spot and not let us leave, i dont care...

'cause here's the deal, i want to take my time over my very first permanent shroud char! i dont want to be forced to choose to either rush through char creation or take my time and miss out on any chance for the lot i want.

so if the devs could seperate those two things it would certainly make lot selection day much less stressful.

 

Richard has mentioned this as something which will be in the game.
You can go to a "stylist" and redo the look & feel of your character for a small fee.
But names wasn't mentioned in that hangout.

 

Last names cab be both good and bad. Go with whatever makes you happy. However, PORTALARIUM I AM TIRED OF TYPING FIRST AND LAST NAMES TO SUMMON PEOPLE ESPECIALLY WHEN THEY HAVE ABSURDLY LONG NAMES. At least the typed commands are saved in queue though.

 

I'm not positive, but I don't think /summon will be in the released game. I'm hoping it is replaced with a moongate-like spell. To your point though, I agree, typing out player names is tedious. It would be nice if it were made easier. On the dev+ section of the forum I recommended that chat include tab-completion that could be used for commands, and player name lookups.

Repeating my thoughts here for more traction with the dev team.

I myself really HATE the same last name for all my chars, kind of weak actually.

And if I want to have an evil , nice, and neutral char they should have different names. The most one Email will have is 3 names, as for account reliability for thieves and other such people who are bound to abuse this game for personal gains, they will just make multiple accounts with minimal pledges, and just delete and rename chars?

This last name thing is abusurd for such a forward thinking MMO.

I want one char to be me , one to be my evil alternate and the last to be me crafter ALL DIFFERENT names and one NO LAST NAME???

 

This sounds like schizophrenia schizoccountia... .
You can achive this by holding at least 3 accounts.
