If a mage uses heavy armor and 2 wands, isn't the fizzle chance still really awful for most of the spells that SHOULD be awful (Fire, Death, Air)?

No, with 2x wands and a single chain chest piece they can circumvent the fizzle and still have full access to all the heavy armor skills. If they don't need top of tree skills in death they can go plate or more chain. Also they can actually use a few pieces of plate with trees like earth and sun with out fizzle penalties (designed to be more plate friendly).

Interesting. That does seem odd. Thanks for clarifying.

I hope that the new armor set rewards fix that issue.
Wands needs to be balanced since forever now... I always got the answer they are waiting for the ammo system to get implemented... thus making wands a real weapon again.

I thought they were definitely doing away with the "armor school determined only by the chest piece" thing...?

So @Chris, does this mean we might be able to mix in different schools of glyphs when we are wearing a mixed set, even if we don't get full benefits for wearing a full suit of either? I already forgo the set bonus for mixing armor types, but I'd be happy to invest some skill points in heavy armor skills if I could get any use out of them, however limited.

"It also means that circle strafing will be tougher"

OK @Chris then for a tradeoff, can we have it so that rooted mobs cannot simply spin around to face their attacker? I dunno about you, but if my feet were tangled up in a bunch of roots, I don't think I'd be able to spin around 180 degrees and shoot some arrows off at my assailant.

I just planted my feet and was easily able to turn my body 180 degrees.

And operate a bow or otherwise fight somebody off? Also, I dunno what kind of crazy yoga you're into, but the most I could rotate was 90 degrees... 105 maybe if I push it. :D

I just tried and i can do at least 270 degrees :) Apart from that..i agree....rooted mobs/players should be fixed or at least cant shoot back...will give players a tactical play, root and back attacks....

If I was a highly trained archer with 150+ dex, then I don't see why I wouldn't be able to fire a bow. I have done it with a rifle in a USPSA match and I am not nearly as trained or in shape as our Avatars should be.

"Elemental/magic Potion changes incoming! For R50, the current elemental/magic potions will be renamed to Greater Resistance potions and remain at 50 resistance. Once R50 goes live, these will no longer drop in game and the recipe will now craft a new potion that is only +25 resistance. Making this public now because I know you crazy guys will want to go buy up all these to save for PVP tournaments. Since these are one use consumables, it is my belief that they will filter out of the system fairly quickly."
    Chris' Daily Work Blog

Is this changes going live in R50?

I think they should be able to fight back when rooted. Root is generally only to stop movement so a melee can catch an archer/mage or an archer/mage can create distance. There is a mesmerize skill that can be used to position for back shots. Also any skills that knock down, I believe you get bonus damage on target that are knocked down.

Mesmerize actually is decent against mobs that are close to your level... if you have decent attune. I have used it with some success.

I have thought of using mesmerize but doesn't it get broken when damage received? If so then yes you could still get a back shot in before they return to normal... up to now if I'm purposefully going for back shots i have been using lightning/cl as the stun length allows me a few quick stabs in...I do have mesmerize quite low but wont take long to raise, ill give it a go...

Hmm... So maybe root, knockback, attack, repeat?

Though 1 second is a really short time to try and reposition.

The bigger picture here is that positional advantage is supposed to be a big thing, yet the mobs apparently have the 4D sight and always know where you are, and are constantly turning toward the Avatar.

I am a lazy archer. I just shoot them the mobs in the face. They usually die.
