Ranged was nerfed hard

    I hope my strength is high enough to be effective in combat. It is around 130 with gear, buffs, blessings and food going at the same time.

    Going to ask our QA to look at this because the bears have 7 points of armor. Which means the theoretical max they could stop is 7.

    And just confirmed that something horrible did go wrong and I saw about the same numbers. My first guess is that it was not change to armor but the change to stillness. Investigating but reminder, this isn't limited to ranged but all melee. I know people here are concerned because I used ranged as an example but this hurts all melee combat.

    Ah, and just discovered that bears in particular were made much worse. They have the innate package for Bears and for warriors. Both of those had armor that was never applying before. Fixing that now. Also evaluating options as this definitely is a problem for all melee.

    Ok, for a quick summary, several things happened here that hurt ALL melee damage but especially with bears. Bears had double damage resistance and double absorption plus they had the same hit points as before. Many high hit point mobs were adjusted down slightly but not bears. :) I fixed the bears armor but didn't change the hit points. The will probably still feel a bit tougher than they used to.

    Second, I adjusted all melee damage with the base attack up by about 15%. This does not include specific skills but I did also bump up high hit, low damage skills like rapid shot.

    So I went with this change for several reasons, standard auto attacks and free attacks were lower DPS than they should have been. The result was people felt like if they ran out of focus, they were useless. The other reason is since there was no change to PVP damage before, this means that melee types will gain a slight boost for PVP while remaining about even with PVE. This is also something I've been wanting for a while as casters have had the upper hand for quite some time.

    Ok, for the record, meele does not include ranged attacks, but it seems to be getting used that way :)

    I'm happy about base attack up 15% damage, but meele base attack (possible exclusion of blades) will still be useless compared to ranged if they all got the same boost. Meele, particularly bludgeon and polearms, should have gotten a boost compared to ranged.

    My first guess would had been that all NPC's had a DR depending on level and a max % depending on role/race

    I guess I got lucky. I can tell no difference in my ability to fight effectively in Elysium mines. Yeah!

    does ranged combat '- long bow, get any damage from dex??

    I believe dex increases your chance to hit the target. Nothing else like more damage.

    if that so, then there's a big flaw in the second ranged weapon coming out.
    its damage will be around the same as a short bow, but with 0 str modifier.

    it wont even be worth using

    @Chris : shouldnt dex provide damage to ranged? without dex providing damage, there's only two types of builds. High str, mid dex, low int and medium str mid dex and high int.

    I would say Dex provide more critical chance to hit and more chance to dodge. Use the tooltip on your character sheet to ensure this.
