It's not the PvP group as a whole thats the loudest tho. it's the ones that only want to fight other people and do nothing else.

Like folks who play arena games

But EMP, don't you see how you generalize and judge people ?

Maybe thats HOW they say it, but deep inside, what the heck do you know about them...

Me I stopped a long time ago trying to convince people of why I want full loot, full open sandbox. Now you'd put me in the same bag as some kiddos who just want to harass miner noobs ?

Yeah, I've changed my tune from the OP.

What I'd like to see now is that when you pvp levels don't factor into it. You have whatever the max number of skill points is from day one (if you're flagged as open pvp) and that only works when you're fighting another player. Levels simply don't exist in pvp.

So you'd have pvp decks and pve decks, and they would automatically populated on your screen according to what you were attacking. If you tried to fight a monster with your pvp deck it would just give you a message like "The current deck does not work against non-players".

I have no idea what you are rambling on about.

New player retention is about "fun" and knowing that when you log in next that fun isn't lost. Being the target of someone else's fun and a long grind to get to your fun is not going to work.

Why are people not logging in for each release... The fun they are looking for isn't there, or they don't know how to find it. That simple.

    I don't play arena games. I'm a roleplayer.

And despite the last 20 years of bad MMO design, roleplaying has nothing to do with standing in the same place all day killing dumb AI. (neither does pvp, btw)

I do. I played EvE for 6 years, which was about as hardcore as you could get. Which is one of the viewpoints im speaking from.

I hear ya. I rather liek the idea of putting PvP people at a similar power level, butt hats hard to do while having thigns like stats and weapon-magic bonuses that rely on spendign skillpoints.

From what i've understood from the dev's the AI will be alot better. they havent worked on it much yet. And killing monsters will not be the only way to progress.

They've even mentioned they want to find a way to allow PvP to have progression just like PvE does. Thats alot harder to do tho because two peopel could easily jsut agree to kill each other for XP.
^ this would be a good thing to ponder and come up with ideas on

Grouping players together based on level is horrible. Go down that route and its a fail before it launches.

Selective multiplayer has always had that in mind. Where have you been? :)

Star Citizen has a similar system planned, btw. Sounds pretty smart to me.

My concern is really that levels matter like that in the first place though. To me that's bad design if you want any type of competitive play where the outcome isn't already decided. And that's what keeps games fresh and replayable.

I cant believe what I'm reading, reaching level 100 with no effort? you are not a real PVPer..........

Grouping like minded people together is one thing.......grouping players together for pvp is just awful.

Dress it up how you like .... pig.....lipstick.....its a pig.

:) Because I'd rather fight players than AI?

    That's so weird.

Envy I support your want to kill anyone in the game you want. I like that you're a bad guy. I want there to be unfair fights in this world. I just want them to be about being smart and not leveling.

Winning at pvp because you're a higher level isn't good game design. Winning because you're an opportunist is good game design.

I hung around Placid and Syndicate mostly in gallente space.

EDIT: with mostly harmless, huzzah, Jovian Labs or whatever they are called, was the last group i was with. Most of my time was in or around syndicate and Placid, and unknown space.

Personally I would prefer gaining on individual skills and not one overall lever However a level is just a proxy for the whole lot. Just because someone is high level doesn't make them a great PvPer. Likewise a group of low levels may wish to take on higher levels.......who care? the point is there should be no hand holding. Hand holding in PvP is one sure way to make it meaningless and pointless.

PvP should not be based on fairness....it should have the possibility of the most unfair occurrence within the game. When you attack a player, you shouldn't know how skilled they are....you are attacking a stranger......could be weaker or stronger than you.......thats half the thrill of PvP.

This is the game you're describing...

    1) Level as high as you can.
    2) Find people lower level than you, punish them for not being high enough level.
    3) Eventually get beat by someone that is a higher level.
    4) Find friends that you can use to outnumber that person.
    5) Eventually get outnumbered yourself.
    6) Get your friends to level up higher and get more friends.

I'm looking for something a little more interesting than that.

Me too. But if this combat system ends up similar to the way it is now, we'll probably both be disappointed.
