    I don't see why there couldn't just be a resistance tree with trade off skills that give an alternate non-magic route to the same result, but with some effect negative to actually using that same tree (maybe zeroing out attunement). If it was done so that you could get resist either through attunement or through those skills, but not both, that seems like it would be ideal.
