Title: Pine Bark Drop Rate Does Support Dye Recipe Needs
    Reproduction Rate: 100%
Blocker? If you are a cloth-wearing earth Druidess trying to get some dark green and brown duds... yes. [IMG]

    Details:

Grey, Brown, and Green dye recipes for call for 4, 5, and 8 pine barks, respectively. These are lvl 40-50 Tanning recipes. Yet- pine barks are exceedingly hard to come by.

Today, I spent a couple hours running around the "Naryad Pinelands" and turned up a measly 8 pine barks. Almost all of which came from the North Naryad Pinelands, as the South Naryad Pinelands barely have any pine trees at all. (Yes, I realize these are clones, but still.)

Upon recommendation from a couple other players, I then ventured off to the Verdantis Shardfall. Apparently this is the best place to find pine barks. After another hour there, I found two more barks, and then got chased out by no less than a Reaper and 2 Obsidian Golems.

Upon further recommendation, took Jaan out to Drachvald where only pine trees grow. Another hour in got 1 more pine bark.

Also was suggested to kill reapers. Sounds fun, but definitely cannot solo.

A basic ingredient for a low-level recipe should not be so hard to come by, or require group play. Filing as a bug because sometimes I wrongly assume you guys are already aware of these things, and just haven't gotten around to fixing them yet. [IMG]

Wow, didn't realize it, but the recipes for dk/lt/green ONLY call for pine bark. I have 2x maple tree bark than pine bark in my coffers. Guildies confirm that pine bark is exceedingly hard to get.

Yes. Though still seems too difficult for what it is.

Yes- based upon my hoard I would say about the same. Maple trees are much easier to come by.

i have hoarded the same amount of maple 312 and pine 308 tree bark since i only used them for making each dye once

and that is without getting any from mobs only harvesting for one year now

Fair enough... sounds like they're about equally scarce.

Less than one of each bark per day.... that's a helluva lot more rare than silver or gold ore. That's artifact-style rarity.

Well, some trees are pine some are maple. If you hover your mouse over the tree you will know before chopping.
The thing is some scenes have a lot of maple OR pine. So if you tend to go into the same adventure scenes perhaps some are mostly maple?

North and South Naryad Pinelands, for example, have a decent amount of pine to get bark from.

Yes, I do know that you can mouseover the trees to find what kind they are, and that the ratio of maple to pine varies with zones.

Still- as I related in the OP- there is a very low drop rate. The North Naryad Pinelands had an "ok" amount of pine trees, whereas the South Naryad Pinelands hardly have any. And they are both 3 skull so drop rate is even lower.

Consider it like this... it is much easier to get enough gold and silver ore to put 3 masterworks and 3 enchantments on a set of cloth armor, then it is to get enough barks to dye them green and brown.

Or consider... the ingredients to make these dyes are so rare that it is near impossible to find any on a dye vendor... they are custom order items.

What other info can I provide to help build the case, @Lexie ?

Pine and/or Maple bark is also used to make Canvas.
I agree with the assessment that these barks are too rare.

Bark is responsible for well over half the colors.
Bark is foraged and arguably much too rare.
The other dyes are made from commodities, Apple, Pumpkin, Tomato, Banana.
Pine and Maple Bark are each responsible for multiple colors, unlike the commodity dyes.

    Aqua Dye Maple x 4
    Purple Dye Maple x 5
    Blue Dye Maple x 8
    Grey Dye Maple x 4 Pine x 4
    Brown Dye Pine x 5
    Green Dye Pine x 8

    Yellow Banana x 10
    Pink Tomato x 20
    Red Apple x 15
    Orange Pumpkin x 5

Each color has a Light and Dark variant. Above quantities remain the same.

One would think you want the common folk looking like jesters ;-)

TL;DR One must chop about 520 pine trees to make 6 dark brown and 6 dark green dyes.

I think part of the issue here is simply the fact that pine trees are not as abundant as maple trees. But even still, the rare ingredients like barks usually drop slightly better off of trees in 5+skull scenes, so if you are after those I would suggest you concentrate chopping in those scenes over lower tier scenes.

So the drop rate is the same between Maple and Pine bark - but scene tier level is a factor, and of course some scenes have more maple, some have ore pine. If you tend to be going to a high tier maple oriented scene and then a lower tier pine scene, you will see a difference. And of course some scenes have a mix of both.

The issue may be, perhaps, is that on the design side we need more higher tier pine scenes. It's a good suggestion. If you break down each region they are almost 50/50 - almost 50% of regions have pine, almost 50% are maple. But there are slightly more maple overall because it wasn't a number that could be evenly divided.

Thanks, @Lexie . While you guys are revisiting, please also take a look at the mat requirements for dyes.. it seems excessive considering how rare the barks are.
