Nope, this bug report is describing a bug which is not connected to that one.

it was my impression that the way to clear the on-screen task list is by right-clicking each one and hiding it, and that a reset at the town crier is supposed to hide everything both in the journal task section and on screen.

I'm sorry , but I do not follow you then.
Your description matches exactly my problem.
Since patch #599 my problem has been resolved.
All my tasks are visible again in my journal book and on screen.
    No task entries are lost.

I hope your issue is too solved soon.

not sure your quote refutes mine, because "journal" is vague. did it clear your knowledge journal too, and not just the current tasks section?

    Only the current tasks section.

Lum: "...will reset your task list - you will still have them in your journal...".
So I understood it like that the current tasks section of your journal would stay in your journal after resetting your task list.

Town Criers talk about resetting your current task list.
Is there a task list in the Journal? No.
There is a task list only in the top-left corner of the screen.
The task entries in the journal are just entries and not a list.
The journal does not contain any list.

you don't need to argue with me about it. one of us is right, but it'll take a dev to prove it.

An issue here is that town criers say:
"but they will still remain in your Journal"

I never got an option with ant town crier to reset my tasklist again.
But today I did get an option to reset them again at Brittany Alleys.

Again all my tasks from my journal book were also removed.

Since we are so close to release 42, I will wait and see what will happen.

So I have some clarification on this (from Lum). I also thought that clearing task list would clear just the UI portion of task list (top left of screen) but it is intended to clear the "Current Tasks" portion of the Journal (J). There is currently no way to clear one and not the other. But the Knowledge Journal (second link when you click J) is supposed to keep everything including stuff you have completed - and not completed. That is the behavior we are seeing at this time and is working as he designed it.
The goal is to use it to clear bugged quests you have completed. So I learned something as well :)
