Just completed my first Siege scenario last night. I love the amount of mobs that would rush you it made for a thrilling experience after I killed all catapults which was fun A lot of fun, three litches came after me. After the liches we're dead which were challenging because I had to split them up I wandered around for at least another half hour trying to figure out what to do.

After talking with a friend he had told me I'd won The Siege? There was no reward? There was no simple on-screen message? There was no reward? There was no simple on screen message? This left me feeling very hollow and unsatisfied.

If the scene doesn't have anymore catapults and no longer spawn enemies, I'd say that's a decent indication that you've stopped the siege. The player will eventually leave the area.

As for a reward, I'm hoping that whatever will replace the liches (last time I checked, the enemies in the siege are placeholders) will drop some decent loot.

What left me unsatisfied is recognizing that one can solo a siege!

@Skyo Maybe the XP you get is the reward and maybe the Siege disappearing is a reward and maybe not everything need to be rewarded, because some like just the challenge, and to have it is rewarding enough.
Unfortunately a siege seems no challenge to you anymore.

But I agree, there should be a message that the Siege was ended, have you asked the guard or maybe he just tells you that the siege is fought back.

The overall plan seems to be focusing on completing the siege templates and add the actual cabalists into the game before they move on to the next steps of the siege system.

Or maybe the other soldiers could be cheering instead of constantly pissing in their pants.

I don't know what is much too you, but i just assume it's not the standard.
With other words I think it is not good to make max/hr what some people do should not be seen as normal.
If powergamers define standards it's bad for everybody else.

So, you may don't get what you maybe able to get, but you still get XP.

I don't think there are bad XP, every single XP point is good for you, isn't it?

I agree the sieges so far are showing as an unsatisfying experience. When we complete something we should know it. Sometimes it could be as simple as seeing journal updated for us to check. Other times it should be like a ta-da sound or something simple like some of these sounds but distinct to be a completion sound. Visuals are also important indications since I have heard of people not playing their game sounds. It could say you've received 100 gold or whatever for example. I always have mine on but sometimes I'm listening to outside music too. Depends on the day and what I'm doing. Gathering water is definitely a good outside music time or chatting with someone makes it go a lot faster.

Sieges are atm imo as well are not rewarding but more work is being put into them also. ;). I would like to see separate achievements and quests for them as well. Well when we get the achievement system in game. Darkstarr said yes we will get achievements :). I do not play on steam or plan on it ;).

They will eventually be obsidian cabalists. It is confirmed that they will drop rare patterns for modding weapons and armor

The scene does continue to spawn the bandits even after the Liches have been defeated. The only way to know it is complete is to go back to the scout at the entrance. His message changes to something like you were just enough.

We have lots of improvements planned for Sieges including the following:
    • Obsidian Cabalists (replaces the placeholder Liches): Wielders of anti-virtue who when you defeat them you can get rare artifacts (R40)
    • Making the catapults actually operated by engineer NPCs (R39)
    • Better loot from defeating the engineers operating the catapults (R39)
    • Better visuals when you defeat the catapults (R40)
    • Better messaging and visuals when you defeat the cabalists and lift the siege (R40)
    • Making the lifting of the siege sequence actually a quest / task (R40 or R41)

Yes, they discussed this on the R38 Post Mortem.

Bah, seems @DarkStarr just beat me to the info, haha.

One other area I think is important to recognize is that eventually sieges are supposed to impact the towns in a more meaningful way.
    • NPC Vendors will close up shop and no longer sell to players during a siege.
This is a positive, imo, and I hope we see even more impacts as the game evolves.

Is there really no plans to make getting around sieges easier for players who can't handle them?

How is that a positive? Why would places close up shop? i could understand an increase in prices but if there are goods to sell then someone will sell them. As the siege continues prices could rise and eventually close shops. But just being in a siege should not make a town worthless

I see it as a positive because it creates a reason for towns people to care that there's a siege going on. :)

And if we wanted to make a more realistic economic simulation I'd be all for that, but we'd have to start with how NPC's work during non-sieges, and that means they'd need an actual working inventory and not an unlimited amount of goods for sale at an arbitrary price that is only meant to keep players from selling the same items for more gold.
