Salvaging and item durability

Does anybody knows if the item durability gives you a better chance of good salvaging results? I.E. if I salvage 100 longswords at 2/80 durability, will I get the same results as 100 longswords at 98/100?
Also, besides salvage skill and potion, what else gives you a bonus for salvaging? Tools? Artifacts? Astrological events? Expert crafting table?

Some items, like elven estoc / elven bow seem to have higher drop chance of hilt/elven bow string if they are 'max dura 100'. However, in extended tests (hundreds of bows) I've never gotten the speed or accuracy strings from the high dura bows, only the low dura bows. Not sure with other special component stuff.

I've found no evidence to support that the table / tool makes a difference to salvage, but I figure it can't hurt, so I do it at the nice table anyway.

 

I got a norgard fur hood pattern from a 0/10 armour piece so i am thinking not for armour/that particular one at least.

 

Thanks for the replies, I guess there is a lot of test to be done before we can conclude anything. Only thing I know is my salvage skill should be higher level, but I don't know if that would be worth it.

 

I found that 90 salvage skill + obsidian pot + luck is all that is needed. I have found patterns and imbued strings/patterns in all durability ranges.

 

Does it matter if you salvage many items in a batch versus salvaging one item at a time?

 

I'm thinkin' that's more RNG than anything involving durability...........

Not anymore. IIRC.

However people tend to do batches. That way you can maximize with Expert Table, Devotional buff, Ring bonus, etc and if you really wanna splash Obsidian Potion.

 

The durability only affects the value if you sell the item to a NPC.

 

So, by that you are saying that there is zero connection between durability and salvage returns ?

 

As far as I know. I seem get the good strings from broken bows just as easily as the healthier bows.

 

Note that this can be a good use for all those extra repair kits that are taking up space in your boxes, especially the carpentry ones. Repair the high value ones with the highest durability and you should get more back than the kit would sell for to an NPC. It's also a good chance to skill up on repair.
