Is the recent 50% drop in crit damage somehow related to the requirement to have an instrument out to get 100% of the buff? When Voice Trainig starts working, are we going to be able to get back to 75% of the "original" buff at Voice Training lvl 100? Or is it going to drop even lower than 50% without instrument so Voice Training will recover to around 50% of the original power?
I like your second suggestion better. A maxed out VT should give 50%. That bard instrument should be desirable. Great idea!
It's not an idea, it's a question to anyone who might know the devs plans, or even just speculate what comes next. For ideas visit the wishlist requests subforum.
That was simply an adjustment to the critical damage bonus of Savage Sonata because it was too high. I really hope that @Chris will rethink the whole "instrument out" thing now that the critical damage bonus has been nerfed.
Savage Sonata got a bit underpowered then, I hope Barding Spec buffs the crit damage bonus on top of the slight crit chance to make the spec more appealing.
Definitely not at all underpowered. Even with the crit reduction. You need to meet a skilled bard. I'd be happy to introduce you to one.
the archers i know are now dealing 2000 - 3000 maximum critical damage, not 4000+ but its decent. For pvp its on point now and for pve archery still top dps for single target
It's debatable just how effective each bard skill should be with and without an instrument, but I think the game is clearly better if equipping an instrument has some meaning. As it is now, the bard tree is mostly unconditional skills that don't resemble anything bardlike aside from their text.
I personally feel that the 50% reduction for not having an instrument out should only apply to the bonus you get for charging the skill. A single charge should still provide the same benefit.
I think that probably would be fine, but to me it's just insignificant compared to getting a held instrument mechanic into the game, which is a big improvement. Not only does it give the choice of being a more powerful but more limited dedicated bard, but then you can also add a bunch of other stuff to go with it like special instruments with even more specific musical bonuses.
I sing in my shower each morning so I definitely qualify. As soon as this get's sorted out I will be adding it to my Bard Guide.
