Server roll back incoming! Don't PANIC!!

    Don’t PANIC!!! This morning we turned on the 7 day timer for houses. This was the feature that would unclaim lots from idle players and move all their decorations into storage. Unfortunately this didn’t work as described and only players who had changed something on their lots in the last week got to keep their lots. Since this negatively impacts more than 100 players in a VERY bad way, we’re going to take this opportunity to test our emergency rollback protocols.

    Servers will come down at approximately 11:30AM and be down for an hour. When you log in, you should see your house and character in the state it was in from 9 hours ago. Let us know if our test is successful and sorry for the inconvenience!

    Aaaaah the world ends, it is a second Shardfall!!!!

    Well, maybe not:) I am happy to test emergency rollback protocols, though I would liek to see faster action and increased frequency of backups. Nine hours is not that bad though. Though if I was levelling up in that time it is still a huge setback:/

    @Net, we just updated our policy to force a back up every time a server change is made. Also, we'll probably up our backup frequency now that we're seeing more serious testing.

    Shiver Me Timbers I just gained 30 levels in the past hour. This is a dismal day indeed. Oh well I'm sure you can increase my main character from level 52 to level 82 or was it 85?

    Or I could just be trying to hornswaggle you. Trust me as ye may.

    Picked up the game yesterday. First decent crack at it today.
    Finished the tour, got a little gold/armour and well...poop. :(
    9hr rollback is rather harsh, prealpha or not.

    We should be happy, that they already implemented back ups. Sure it is hard to lose 9hours of work, but better 9hours then the work of the last 4 weeks.

    Ah but check to see if your account has the hat tied to it. I wonder if rolling back the servers will take the hat away from your account. It might not. That's a question for Chris to answer, but I would remain hopeful.

    :) That's surprising. You should see how many times before the releases when the servers got wiped every 12 hrs and then taken down after 3 days of the release. It's all relative right?

    Oh back in my day (Before I retired), I knew a Kernel Panic. He was a stiff one, and had a good poker face. I never liked Kernel Panic though.

    Glad we are testing rollback procedures. Always a good thing. Better to catch bugs now than have a complicated beehive of issues later.

    I'm sure you had a guild/friends to support you and it was much earlier in development. :)
    Will try again in a month or few I think, bad timing but it's left a bad taste in my mouth unfortunately. Backups really should have been sorted a long time ago.

    I do not have any in game guild or friends to support me :) In fact because I am a bad tester and not wanting to level a bunch during pre-alpha I only play maybe a few hours each release. I don't have time as some others do to help with testing that much. That's what this is though right? Testing!

    Glad to hear there was an emergency rollback to utilize and test at this point.

    I am not to concerned though as I would expect to lose everything multiple times in an alpa let alone a pre-alpha.

    @Chris, It's always good to test emergency backup/restore procedures. I'm definitely a fan of disaster preparedness.
