According to Mr.Hickman's website, Shards of the avatar, the sequel to Sword of Midras should've been released last fall.
    Alas, that didn't happen.

    Please refer to below link;

So, my question is simple. When is it coming and will it ever be released??

I think, we won't see it at all. My opinion.

Sound to me the void > writing novels for mr hickman now. His life was reset.

Only mr Hickman can answer your question.

The answer is in the article. to quote:
    • SHARDS OF THE AVATAR: This is the second book in the 'Shroud of the Avatar' series I have been doing with Richard Garriott for his amazing online MMORPG game. This book I am looking to complete this fall. This leaves one book remaining in this contract.
    • ...
    • AVATAR BOOK III: This would be the final book in the 'Shroud of the Avatar' series with Richard Garriott. I suspect this would be completed next spring and would conclude this series and contract.
EDIT: As pointed out by others, this quote by T.Hickman was from March 2016. The stated projections have passed.

Look at the date on the top of the page. He was talking about fall of last year.

Unfortunately "this fall" doesn't really give a release date when the article was written in march 2016.

LB recently said that he had been exchanging emails with Hickman on the second.

Well.. wasn't George R R Martin supposed to complete the Winds of Winter years ago? Here we are still waiting on that book.

Writing books isn't quite something you can give a timeline. It will take as long as it takes for writers to come up with something good.

Writing books for all but the most successful authors, maybe 20 of them on the planet right now, happens on strict timelines and there are penalties for authors that fail to meet them for any reason. Publishers have basically zero tolerance for people that can't deliver material on time unless, when that material finally hits the shelves, they stand to make millions from it (Rowling, Martin, etc.). This is something all but a few authors for each generation have to deal with - those that can't meet the guidelines self-publish wherever, or don't publish at all.

It's a brutal industry with basically an infinite pool of talent and would-be authors knocking down the doors for their shot. People that fail to deliver don't last long and are blackballed quickly if they refuse to adhere to any major publisher's dates and guidelines.

Good point. Is there a publisher's date and guidelines for this Shard of the avatars? or did he only give out a tentative/estimated date?

Not the one to answer that - but if a google of the author's name doesn't return anything with a few SOTA keywords mixed in, assume that info wasn't made public. This is either because they're far away from completion, because they were cancelled, or because they had some other marketing blitz/planned with a shorter timeframe with a surprise release. The 3rd of those options is possible, but extremely unlikely.
