    Hej,

I plan to craft some Roundshields, need to fit for Viking Gyor Shield Pattern.

    What's good, what's not?

    Heavy Round, Iron Round, Wooden.

I'm planning to use it with Leather Armor and a Sword.
Viking Style with Viking Guard Armor.

Maybe branching out more into Earth to support this and of cause tactic skills.
I also need to learn to use Shields.

So what Shields i go best for?

If you're going to use patterns then I would say the best shield is the one with the best stats.

I haven't crafted (or used) a shield in a long time.. if memory serves me correctly though.. it seems like there was some advantage to the wooden shield...like maybe it was in the low fiz rate...
somehow wood seems to fit with a Viking theme

hmm the other side to that is that iirc the wooden shield wasn't craftable... which was always a mystery

seems like you either had to steal.. err acquire them in the first noob zone or perhaps the merchant in Soltown sold them.

The best shield as far as stats go is heavy round. 2 sheets binding strap, rectangle is 1 sheet 2 bindings 1 strap, triangle is 1 sheet 2 straps 1 binding. Cannot craft wood shields. I think for patterns, they only go on the right shield, could be wrong, but I have heard only certain ones go on heavy round and so on.

Though the benefit to the wooden shields is they have no additional fizzle cost to them

Well, since the shields themselves already exist, it seems like @DarkStarr can have adding the recipes for wooden shields as low-lying fruit for an upcoming update! ;)

It's not quite that low-lying as there would need to be a lot of thought about how material properties apply.

All of the different crafted shields have the same base stats of 6 damage resist and 1% avoidance. Like said above, the round shield is best because it uses 2 sheets while the others use 1, but if you have some pattern that you really like that only fits another shield (I'm not sure how that works), it's not that big of a deal since they use very little material and don't get big bonuses.

White Iron or meteoric are probably best for the sheets since you have no use for weapon damage. I like white iron better, but it's not a big deal either way.

White iron bindings each give +5hps and constantan bindings each give +5 focus, so I would use one of those.

Straps pretty much all suck, so I usually use leather to save time and money.

For comparison, a meteoric round shield with a meteoric binding gives +0.5 resist, while a white iron round shield with a white iron binding gives +0.3 resist and +10hps, and a constantan shield with constantan bindings gives +10 focus (and 2+% weapon damage).

Interestingly enough, white iron bindings are so good that a meteoric rectangle shield with white iron bindings is slightly better than a white iron round shield with white iron bindings:

You can also make rectangle shields with slightly more hps or focus than round shield:

What properties do you get for bronze? Also, shouldn't that be a kite shield and not a rectangle shield?

I don't know much about shields, but it's definitely not rectangular.

Bronze has the same damage resistance bonus as white iron and the same weapon damage bonus as constantan, so a bronze round shield with bronze bindings would have 6.3 damage resistance (+4.3%) and +2.2% weapon damage (1% per sheet, 0.2% per binding).

I think the sheets are drop only and the bindings can be bought from NPCs. The blacksmith in resolute has some of that stuff iirc, but maybe there are more convenient locations.

I might have some of these in a box, but not sure without looking.

I may have found a playervendor who sell the recipes, thank you.

Yes i remember now i once looted the recipe for meteoric iron binding, but that's all i can craft about upgraded raw Material.

    Thanks

    another Question @Mac

i have made a White iron Heavy Round Shield +1 and shaped it with a Viking Guor Shield Pattern.

If i later put some MW or Enchant on it that would be no Problem or?

Can you MW and Enchant All Gear step by step, so that you craft something and later you do some masterworl and/ or enchant Modifications, of course with the risk to destroy it?

and what is about lootet equip, can i masterwork/ enchant that too?

i have a Split Tabbard Gambeson Set i maybe want to slightly improve by putting some mw/enchant on.

@Stundorn , you can add a masterwork / enchantment effect any time to a crafted object. Only a few vendor sold equipment are modifiable this way and the only lootable stuff I know that can be enhanced similarly are the artifacts.

Recommend you use a +5 crafting table and use shrine blessings to enhance the relevant crafting skill needed. There are also artifacts that can help.

Yikes! I would only use the pattern after all masterwork/enchantment. If it fails you don't want to loose the pattern also.
