We wanted to explicitly communicate to people who were using it to monitor virtue scores that this was no longer supported.

Your virtues have absolutely not been reset. The only change was in the /stats command.

Your screenshot shows (a) that you have never visited the Oracle before to ask about your virtues and (b) it correctly gave you feedback as to your current virtue state.

that's what patch notes are for... and the release notes... just my point of view here, that wasn't the first, second, or third best way of doing it...

also, why doesn't the oracle know my deeds anymore?
finally, why doesn't my virtue cloak glow?

Are you absolutely sure there isn't a bug anywhere in any part of the virtue system where you are ready to hide all of that information?

Displaying the virtues in /stats was 100% unintentional, as mentioned. We do not document every bug we fix in release notes.

As I said, the Oracle is giving you updates that match your status you posted. "Considers this virtue to be important" is positive. There is another response for negative and very negative.

Didn't work on that, couldn't tell you. Could be a bug because all of your virtues are positive or close to each other.

Yes. One's own virtue scores can be seen easily when using a GM client.

Okay, well, to be very clear here: I have visited the oracle before and used it to check virtue and change my pvp flag status. That portion at minimum was reset.

Thanks for your feedback on this, if you're sure the stats aren't reset then everything else I'm saying here I guess are bugs with other systems, not virtue, and feedback.

THIS IS WHY WE DO NOT SHOW VIRTUE SCORES.

It is NOT intended for avatars to be 100% courageous, loving, and truthful. Humans do not work like that. Humans are not stat scores. This is PRECISELY why we only give limited feedback, to PREVENT "not doing anything wrong" specifically to manipulate a score.

A virtue is not a variable, it is a philosophy.

I find this very surprising considering he is the one who designed the virtue system and continues to demand its further implementation, and is the one who constantly insists the numbers be hidden from players (if anything, I often push back on that).

    PRRRRRRRRR!!! :p

    Speak for yourself! :D

I miss those values, only that... I actually don't. I don't need a numerical value precisely know for such fuzzy concepts like "loving" or "courageous". Good riddance.

Thou hast strayed far from the path of the
Avatar. Seek now to renew a life of Virtue, lest
thy soul pass finally beyond my reach!
    /
Thy soul seeks direction from thy heart,
misguided one. Accept now this new chance to
prove thy worth, ere thou loseth the Way
    forever!
    /
It is within thee to attain great power, O seeker.
Search always for new ways of good, and arm
thyself well for the trial that lie ahead!
    /
Thou showest well the wisdom of an Avatar, but
not yet hast thou achieved the potential. Stay on
the path and thy soul shall flourish.
    /
Well armed art thou to fight Death's embrace, O
enlightened one! Return once more to the world
    for thy Destiny awaits thee!

The problem I have with this is that inadvertent clicks -- like double clicking that potato instead of the merchant -- can have negative effects on my avatar and there's no way to undo it (I can't put that potato back)! So it actually doesn't reflect me as a person.

Such inadvertent clicks do not meaningfully change your score unless you've done literally nothing else in the game. We're also going to add "(owned)" to the tooltip of owned items.

Does your karama/virtue really even effect your game play on anyway as of now besides which color your virtue cloak will glow? Mine glows red because I think I'm on the naughty list. Or maybe red for love? Would be nice to see what the actual colors glowing on the cloak stands for.

AHA I know why it's telling you (and everyone else) it's the first time you visited.

We changed the time the Oracle checks on to use server time instead of local PC time so that players could not set their system clock and instantly do another virtue test for $$. Thus with R34 your first visit with the Oracle for this release will be shown as the first.

Wow. Smart. Saved someone exploiting the system there and flooding the game with easy gold! My applause!

If you are not concerned about the story, no. It will have a large effect on the ending of the story, and we will introduce side quest NPCs who respond differently based on player virtue as well. We have resisted doing that to this point because when people were blocked from doing a quest due to virtue they reported it as a bug.

"A virtue is not a variable, it is a philosophy."

I love this... please find a way to put this in the game instructions... one sentence that can apply to so many aspects of this game (even PVP). love it!
