Undead scourge cannot speak. They have no lungs no vocal chords. They don't even breath. Please don't let them pretend to be like humans it is not right.

Do they say something? I didn't go fight the mobs yet.. just saw The Wolf, who did speak...

It depends entirely on the lore and whether skeletons are brainless or not. If some are brainless, and others aren't, of course, there should be an explanation why.

Not sure how skeleton mages could exist without being able to speak, though, since magic uses words of power. I pointed that out earlier.

In the world of New Britannia, the undead do indeed speak. And not all are immediately hostile.

In R8 you will meet a few spirit speakers - people who are adept at talking with the dead successfully.

If it bothers you that beings without lungs speak, I would also point out that they have been known to also walk around and occasionally use weapons without muscles. Clearly this is not something natural science can explain...

One of the best quotes I have ever heard is from Mel Gibson on the movie Pocahontas. He answers critics that say that the animated film doesn't accurately reflect the true story (which of course it doesn't). To these people he says something like this, "In a movie where the raccoon's sing and dance you can't really expect total realism." So yes, I'm quoting Mel Gibson, and I suppose I'm also comparing him to Lum in the same breath, but the spirit of the quote is all that really matters. :)

This exactly! I mean you're okay with dead bodies walking around and hitting you with things, but when they speak it's unrealistic?

It doesn't matter what reality you call home, you won't get a deep profound discussion about talking skeletons, so...don't feel disappointed.

One of the coolest first impressions I had when I first played D&D was we were exploring this dungeon (it's in the Forgotten Realms Gold Box if you want to check it out - that supplement was unsurpassed since, and everything else that came out for FR didn't have that magic) and there were dead bodies we encountered with frost bites from a Lich's touch.

We were able to use speak with dead to talk to the dead bodies, where our DM explained that the skulls rose up into the air and began talking, and we were able to ask questions about who killed them and why they were there.

I always thought Fantasy Computer Games missed out on cool things like that.

It be smarter and more creative to make text something playerz *hear* in their heads as opposed to speech.
In that sense the words would need to much more creepy and dark and not undead trying poorly to be witty or comical like these cartoon videos.
For example something more akin to paranoia or references to the player themselves.

    Cheers

Sounds good. There are a lot of possible ways to make sense of undead drooling like magic or items or being dead yourself.

If we want to get that technical, bones themselves cannot move. It is our muscles that move them for us. Therefore by that logic, skeletons themselves would not be able to move at all. Shall they get rid of moving skeletons, then?

Yes, and how can skeletons see without eyes?

Its all about the game lore. Skeletons are normally assumed to be mindless like zombiesc where their bodies just become reanimated, but they have no soul. Often this is because they're risen from the dead in service of a wizard. Ghosts have always been able to speak though, and so have liches, which are assumed to have the soul of the mage who became the skeleton. I'd only expect the game to be consistent about its own lore.
