In the past notes I have seen mention of NO limit on how high skills can go, this I tought was excellent. In R33 notes, it's mentioned that a MAX skill limit of 200 maybe reached to max out Taming cooldown & Range. Is this number JUST for that skill, OR is 200 the General Skill Cap now?
Once you get around past 125, the XP it needs will be so high that it might be worthwhile to put them on other skills instead. At least until more high end content become available.
I'm fully aware of the exponential increase of required experience. I appreciate your comment Roycestein but it does not anwser my question. "What is the official skill cap, if any?"
I believe that 200 is the general skill cap now. Basically 100 is the new 40 that everyone gets eventually, 200 is what the specialist will work for with certain skills.
While there might be a hard cap of 200, in reality I don't think anyone will get there. Well not anytime soon anyhow. With 200 as a skill cap and the way experience works and with the number of skills, I'd call it unlimited advancement. There's not many games out there with unlimited advancement, and I always wondered why there wasn't.
Challenge accepted. And the answer is lazy developers(have to keep making content that scales) and pvp. But I've Always wanted a game where you could never stop making your character better (loot doesn't count). 200 will take a long long time. But if you ever leveled to 60 In eq Kunark era you'll know what I mean by saying, can do.
Yes. You will see big boost when skill is going from 0- 60. From 60 to 80 it's about 10% better. From 80 to GM it's about 10% as well. It will be at the point where the amount of XP no longer justify the improvement you get from a specific skill, especially when the skill decay is working the way it's supposed to work.
Let's say, as we know that level 200 is the hard cap. There will be a few who grind away attempting to reach it first, just to say they did, Then what? Shroud is not a sprint,it's a marathon and those who play should not give themselves a reason to get burned out. There are a lot of things to do in the game, leveling is only a part. Do what you enjoy, and somewhere there will one or two of "That Guy", who says getting to level 200 first is enjoyment and winning. For the rest of us,level when the mood strikes you, craft when you feel like it,explore when you find it fun, decorate when you get a new idea. Whatever you do,do it for the fun, not for the grind. Grinding burns people out, then they leave and find some other game,we need you all here, everyone of you are a important part of the games future.
It was polearm. That was back in several releases ago. By the time you're at 80, the damage boost at this point already not any worse than GM. You can hover over any skill glyph to see if the next 20 levels worth the effort or not.
I spent three months only putting XP into the polearms base skill... I used no glyphs and had no other skills. I want to say I reached level 75 or so which put me at 132 polearms... level 200 is... well, WAYYYYYYY more XP than that. More to answer the OP, if someone ever did get close to 200 I'm sure Chris would just raise that max to 300 because they've started that this is a game with no skill cap.
I can confirm that there is currently a MAX skill level of 200 for all skills. I was able to prove this by playing in SP Offline mode, saving a game, then editing my XP in my skills. It took 99,999,999,999 XP (11 nines) to get a skill to level 200. I then wanted to figure out if I could raise them past level 200, so I incrementally added another 9 to the XP number to find the Level 201 requirement. I got up to 999,999,999,999,999,999 XP (18 nines) and the skill never raised past 200. At the 19th 9, it broke something because all of my skills were set back to 0 (zero)! Not sure if the number itself was just too long to be computed in the formula, or if it's a failsafe written in to prevent hacking the game files... but it would not let me hack it past 18 nines. I even tried 20 and 21 nines just to see if that was an anomaly and neither of those worked either. Therefore, I declare that it is impossible to raise a skill beyond level 200 under the current build (484) no matter how much you grind... even if it were possible for someone to grind enough to have 999,999,999,999,999,999 XP in one skill (which in and of itself at this point would likely take years of grinding) it would do you no good because you won't even gain one skill point with it. But, even trying to reach that 99,999,999,999 XP to get to the max 200 skill level will also take a very long time... even for the most efficient grinders out there. So the Dev's have plenty of time to figure out a way to raise the skill cap past 200.
Yes they have confirmed that there is a hard skill cap of 200. As mentioned several times, the soft cap will hit way before this.
