SotA Economy - Gold Sink Brainstorming

    The sole purpose of this thread is to come up with ideas for new gold sinks and possibly changes to existing ones. Rather than debate amongst ourselves, I'd like a dev friendly list. So I ask any new ideas be as succinct as possible.

    I will reserve the 2nd post to keep ideas in one place to for easy reading for devs (and everyone else).

    Why do we need more sinks? The answer is simple. Removing gold from the world will increase it's overall value (which will help bring prices down). This is just one piece of a larger puzzle that is the economy.

    My own thinking is we need more optional gold sinks (not more required sinks like lot taxes).

    NPC Services:
    Specialized NPCs for hire to perform a certain task.

    Examples:
    • Gardener - Keeps all plants on lot watered. Fee based on number of plants per day.
    • Pyro-technician - Give them fireworks and they'll set them off for you. Good for parties?
    • Acrobats/Juggles - Will perform a series of emotes on demand.
    • Skill Trainers - They're readily accessible so why not? :)
    • Hirelings w/ purchasable upgrades
    • Shepard - Helps with (future) Animal Husbandry
    Other:
    • Auction house w/ listing & selling fees
    • NPC Merchant's guild to manage regional/global listing (for a fee)
    • ^ Listing fee based on item selling price?
    NPC Vendors
    • COTO Vendors sell COTOs for gold
    • New items sold for COTOs & short term availability items ie telethon rewards, bundles
    • Pay for titles ie Millionaire
    • ^^ Titles with effect when displayed ie Merchant title w/ 5% discount from NPCs or Skill gated title w/ skill related buff.
    • High demand items sold on NPCs (maybe temporary/as needed).. ie teleport scrolls
    • Allow NPCs to sell raw resources (temporary/limited supply?)
    • Cosmetic clothing
    Limited 'Gambling'
    There are obvious controversies with gambling but in limited fashion such as with a raffle perhaps? Question is what a good prize would be. Maybe a lottery.
    • Raffle/Lottery prizes might include COTO bundles?
    • Something like the lottery droid in Star Wars Galaxies will work as a sink (50/50 raffle)
    Quests
    • Quests that require you to pay.. ie NPC is selling information that might lead to a reward. Reward may be random.
    • Robbers on the world map (they steel your gold).
    • apprentice crafting quests, have to craft X items and hand in with donated Y gold to get Z producer XP.
    • adventure training quests, collect X trash loot drops and Y gold to remove current attenuation. Note the amount of items needs to be the at least the amount you can collect in no less than an hour
    • NPC guilds w/ membership fee, quests & advancement fees, titles & badges (ie deco item)
    Crafting Changes (& Related)
    • Remove major repairs as an option (except for non-trade items)
    • Increase rate of durability loss
    • Increase crafting fuel costs
    • Remove repair kits from loot table
    • Remove tool repair kits entirely
    • Coin operated auto-watering planting beds/pots
    • Remove artifact essence and use COTOs for artifact repair.
    • More crafted consumables that use fuel. ie kits that add buffs for weapon types
    • Smelt coin into ingots
    • Minting custom coin
    • Recipes that require gold (ie gold piles)
    • Recipes that require purchase only ingredients ie: container space upgrade or texture changers.
    • Pay to rename gear.
    Buffs
    • Guild buffs
    • Buff boosters/Devotional & Oracle buffs from "donations"
    • Scheduled group buff gathering (ie players get together and all chip in for a group buff, more players = larger buff) ie Oracle "church" 'service' or social club.
    • Buff from advanced trainers
    • Pay to remove attenuation buff (debuff?)
    Travel
    • Airship Tours/Taxi
    • Future mounts require feed to additional speed / less focus drain
    • Sea encounters that 'damage' ships incurring repair costs / dry dock fees
    • Ship to ship combat - requires craftable cannons & other weapons / ammo
    Player Owned Town
    • Buy increased chance of fishing bonus
    • Rent additional NPC slots
    Kobold (Coin operated) Tech
    • Coin operated arcade games
    • Carnival games
    • Plant watering system
    Crafting / Purchasing Incentives
    • Player dungeon features: Pay to enter challenge dungeons w/ winnable 'pot'.
    Other
    • House look "dirtier" over time, unless you pay a maintenance
    • Allow player vendors to buy all loot
    • Lower artifact drop rate
    • New artifacts
    • Concert Hall
    • Pay to enter locations ie bar, broth.. I mean bath house... , Event stadium w/ prizes (PVP?)
    • Load screen ads/daily message/Livestream shoutout for (Guild/Town/Event)
    • Make the upcoming (some day) trade channel cost 5g per advertisement.
    • In game calendar that costs to list your event
    • Player Vendors charge additional upkeep for outside stores (in rainy zones).
    • Guild store - unlock special options & services
    • available in guild store: guild house, trainers, guild auction & tax free merchand, +10 crafting bench, titles , decos, guild dungeon (raids), once per month full repair tools.
    • Mounted combat / Jousting! (breakable lances)
    • Animal Husbandry - various associated costs
    • Character Customization options (perhaps gold rather than COTO options)
    • Luxury items or enhancements that cost gold and demonstrate extravagance. I.E. regular watch versus smart watch.
    • NPC thieves with high stealth and pickpocketing skills, that prey on wealthy avatars. (Especially ones that are AFK in a big city at night)
    • gold gated content
    • Increased skill training cost per tier
    • Reduce scaling costs on upgradable features to incentivize purchases (dungeon/bank space)
    • "Stupidly expense prestige" options
    Want to contribute to this list? A good place to start may be to ask yourself "What would I be willing to pay for?"

    - Player vendors should be able to buy "vendor trash" instead of npcs. not a gold sync. but, does plug a big gold faucet.

    • Hire mercenaries (companions)
    • Smelt gold (coins) into gold (ingots)
    • Maybe have some COTO merchant items purchasable with gold
    • Hire a treasure hunter (sort of a companion who can result in various encounters, who you follow around)
    • Rent extended NPC slots on a property
    • Get more devotional bonus with a money donation

    First off, shawn, great suggestions! Oplek, hiring mercs sounds like fun; I love your ideas. I 100% agree durability isn't doing anything at the moment. Fuel costs could be good, but it doesn't help long term unless durability and decay become meaningful.

    • Remove essences from the game, artifacts get 2 coto repairs, then you have to replace an artifact with a new one... artifacts have little value beyond fuel for repairing better artifacts now and people have no problem turning them into essences
    • Decrease artifact drop rates - we're flooded
    • Portalarium should sell COTOs on COTO vendors for IGG - radical idea, but it's the perfect IGG sink (maybe even do an immediate exchange rate once you checkout)
    • New artifacts
    • Add new gear to the COTO store: weapons, armor, homes, etc... I would put random telethon rewards on the COTO vendors from time to time, so people have a chance to get some older rewards at a premium price (like everything else on the store). Zero labor and could be implemented easily, also another good funding source for Poralarium's future development.
    • Riffing on Oplek's idea... allow me to buy a devotional bonus! Screw the devotionals, and I'll go to the oracle and purchase the buffs for IGG.

    I'm all for it, honestly. The deeds were (are?) good, but I'd try it with COTO bundles too.

    It's another crazy damn option, BUT what if we had an "arcade" in like Central Brittany or a new zone that's dedicated to the task, where we all go to hang out. It could be a lot of different things.
    • Oracle "church" service where we go to get buffs at a set time or interval (every hour/other hour, etc). We pay a little tribute and get the buffs we want, but I like driving everyone somewhere so we all have to go hang out with each other in addition of the little cliques we have now (guilds, PoTs, etc)... the more people at a service could increase the buff size
    • Concert hall
    • Bar with a cover to get in
    • Organized PVP tournaments with a proper stadium and entry fees for contestants and spectators with prizes
    I don't love any of these, I'm just throwing it out there. However, I like the idea of something that gives a reason to go somewhere and do something together, we all need to go to once in a while.

    Another out-of-the-box idea (for me anyway)...

    Give us the ability to earn rewards that can't be sold. Titles, special gear, reputation that help us through out the world, NPC guild grinds (thieves guild, crafting guilds, etc) with daily quests. We've done the gear, but it isn't much.

    It could force us all as players to spend more time grinding for something besides IGG and reduce the amount of gold in the economy.

    Pay to increase your town's chance of getting the fishing bonus.
    Combat areas that have an entry fee
    Airship world map tours/taxi
    Central Brit Airship Tours
    Robbers on the world map, not a scene, they hit you, take 100 gold and disappear (not near noob areas)

    Can we do this while crafting? I'd pay.

    This needs to come with a benefit, as it is already painful for newbies. This should be something that we pay extra for, so that we get a bigger Batch count, for instance. Not needed, but makes life better.

    I would do that.

    Wait until the dungeon system is complete.

    Right now only a portion of it is in game. Later when we have monster spawn points and the ability to decorate. there will be plenty of gold getting spent on decorations and expanding dungeons which is quite expensive.
