Spiders cast web on character in water

Details: I fought three spiders at this location near a floating dock. The battle got fierce so I jumped on the floating dock to get away and the spiders followed across the water to the dock. I jumped into the water to escape and the spider cast a web on me holding me in place in the water where I could not jump to get out. I died of course.

I came back, slew a spider after it entered the water to fight and then skinned it while under water.

Unless these are Water Spiders I see a few problems here.

I've been fighting spiders in the Mysterious Swamp for two dozen releases now. They can root me in what passes for water in that scene. They can't help it, as so much of the scene is... liquid. I've never thought anything of it.
