I know, that's a lot of nav meshes. Start with the player dungeons.
Awesome idea. Hairs on the back of my neck are standing up!
I'm thinking of spiders on ceilings awaiting the unwary adventurer to enter the room, and drop on them.
The last time my skin crawled in a game, and your idea would do it again, was with the Barnacles in Half Life.
I suggested this back in Feb 2015 See my post.
Later on, I was a bit disappointed because when the spider Halloween decos came out, the devs talked about how they decided to make them wall decos rather than floor decos, because if they wanted us to later be able to place spiders in dungeons, and to have dungeon spiders plus floor spider decos at the same time would be confusing. So this suggested to me they weren't ever planning to make spiders climb.
Mobs climbing down trees would also be cool, though.
Gotta keep bringing it up occasionally, these things get forgotten.
You never know, now that there are player dungeons, maybe they will go for it, since they can start with a smaller subset of navmeshes.
Giant spiders that have a special attack that drops from the ceiling down onto your head for extra nightmare fuel!
Finally, additional creepy crawly beasts and even some paranormal styled beasts that can climb walls. Special types of zombies or skeletons that can do this.
Other bonus "weight loss tool" would be having slimes drop from the ceiling onto players.
Yea my only point was that it sounded like the devs ruled this out, when they were talking about the spider decos.
But it would be great if they changed their mind, because it would be really cool. By the way, they still need to add animations for ladder climbing. Maybe when they put things like ladder climbing in the game, they can rethink climbing mobs.
Btw like I mentioned the spider thing was in Path of Exile, they also have monkeys falling from trees in that game.
@redfish it never hurts to throw it out there once in a while.
