*SPOILERS* Dread Artifacts

Okay, I hope other folks find this update as AWESOME as I do, re: Dread Artifacts. This is the type of stuff I loved from the Ultima games and drool over! I don't have the "Shroud of the Avatar"...yet, but a hooded cloak...it makes this Avatar weep with joy! Great work Devs and Portalarium team!

Just wanted to make sure I am understanding how they work. I need a special reagent in order to use the artifact I have equipped. In order to get that reagent I need to sacrifice myself at the the various Oracle Colossus. Plus I can only have one of each reagent at a given time. Is my understanding correct?

*EDIT* I am also assuming here that you "burn" through that reagent after a single use, right?

 

The sacrifice mechanic is not yet in place, but should be added with Release 45. In the meantime, you get *one* reagent, so use it wisely.

That part is not clear in the release notes. Hopefully this is true.

*EDIT* Follow up question, did I also read that you take a "virtue hit" if you use the artifacts or am I just getting too excited over actions finally having consequences?

 

Also, something else not mentioned in the release notes/instructions is that each of the 3 dread artifacts also gives +10 to one of the 3 main stats (str/dex/int). Plus, the crown has 4 damage resist and 4 avoidance... both of which are pretty high for a headpiece.

Unless there are some hidden negatives that aren't listed on the tootips... these are worth wearing even if you don't use for the special spell!

 

I know I asked about it, but no confirmation I've seen.

Yeah the crown is great +10 Int with the resist and avoidance.

The heart is also good - +10 Dex.

The scepter is good if you use bludgeons with +10 Str.

 

Dang, so I have to wield the scepter in order to gain the bonus then?

 

Yeah just equip it like the other ones.

 

What a armor slot does the heart go in?

 

cloak sorry, necklace

 

I though it was necklace since the Shroud is the cloak.

 

HOLY COW! These things look awesome when you wear them! Love the special effects. Just got the Libris Vault page thanks to @discipleofweb and am one step closer to getting the Shroud. Toasty!

Considering that these artifacts are basically made from human bone (or at least the crown is).. am I the only one here who thinks you should take a virtue hit just from equipping the darn things?

 

Oh yeah dude! These things permeate shadowy evil. The heart of sorrows, when equipped, glows with a macabre pulsating darkness around your chest...I love it!

 

I hope not it would feel like overkill to me. At least give people a warning before they permanently mess up their virtues.

I would almost want a larger XP reward like 500K and no artifact that I can never use because I want to be virtuous.

Also, you do have to pay the XP decay penalty for using the spell effects of the artifact.

 

Found this out. Yeah the Colossus statues are not easy to get to so not easy to charge the artifacts.

 

With you here.. but it seems contradictory to not take a virtue hit. These are far from 'virtuous' artifacts. Certainly with the crown, just putting it on you're knowingly (if you paid attention to the story) benefitting from the death of humans. Who knows the origin of the neckless or scepter? but those can't be good either.
