    Hi all,

I'm AL 76, GM polearm, with a decent showing in Heavy Armor, Earth, and Life. I'm also 90something at taming.

So, I like my Obsidian Bear, but he takes up a lot of focus. He's not horrible, but he's not great (and I'm constantly focus-starved). I like my Earth Ele only to the extent that I can sacrifice him on an add and he can buy me some time as I take care of business. Again, he's not horrible, but he's not great. His disposability is a plus. I've been thinking maybe the healing Water Ele could be nice, too, as I mostly solo PvE.

What is the consensus? Is there a particular pet I'm overlooking or underrating? I should probably start committing to just one pet as the xp costs get higher and higher.

    TIA for your thoughts.

    Oy.

    first summons are not pets

you either are a tamer or not

you all know how I feel about it. wait a week or two and ill put up data to really show what the taming tree produces, not just specialization.

for you drop taming get water ele for healing only if you use the water tree. if not stick with disposable earth ele.

Obsidian bear is the best pet for damage/hp/focus cost imo. You can get it to around 200 focus by increasing the concentration skill, also if you use an odd item of cloth armour, Fustian gloves are good, they will if made well give a good portion of that spent focus back. Also in the focus tree is Aetheric Feedback which will give you 140 focus at GM( although you will have to fill it) extra, more so if you stack it. By taking the Taming specialisation it will increase the hp and level of the bear which is always good but focus spec will add i think +1.3 or so to focus rate, that mixed with food at 0.8 and 0.6 and a blessing of honour at 1.5 will add a nice focus recharge rate.

This is exceptionally helpful, thank you.

I'm Polearm specced now, so I'll have to decide to make my second either Taming or Focus. Both seem helpful. I'll definitely try out Aetheric Feedback. I honestly never really saw it there. I'm heavily invested in the right side of the Focus tree, not the left, heh.

I'll also look into trying a piece of Cloth. I'm full plate now, but those Fustian gloves sound interesting.

    Appreciate the tips, as always.

My suggestion is water ellie. I am dual wield swords and at 90 water attunement and gm water ellie, she drops 100 point heals on me. That plus douse and shield of ice are also good compliments from that tree. If being a hally build is what you want then also spec in tactics and raise up berserker stance. Kill things fast and let the water Ellie heal you. I drop soothing rain then tap soul to regen focus if needed in mid battle. Body slam stun can be your friend as well. R/Boris/El Pirata

As an alternative to taming, On my alt char I'm specialised in polearms and like you, have taming quite high but yesterday switched to sneak attacking for a change of playstyle, all I can say is wow what fun it was. I can now easily solo obsidian bears (x3 at a push) without the need for a pet and made in excess of 28k from drops in just a few hrs running round the undead and backstabbing them with my polearm, one shotting the yellow liches more times than not. I'm specialised in life too, but may at some point switch to tactics so i can hit like a truck without need to pre heal over time or have a pet drain my focus pool, I'm also in light armour but will be testing heavy very soon.

    Just a different thought :)

If you think you had fun in light armor wait till you try heavy. Body slam, turn and hit them from behind for double crit chance while using inner strength and weaning bronze chain specially made with high damage and high str. R/Boris/El Pirata.

Maybe it was removed but I have not noticed the difference and know I crit twice as much when behind a stunned opponent.
