    Just a suggestion - maybe players could follow some sort of achievement or playable quest line to earn a title?

    In FFXI, there were dozens of (often silly) titles you could get from various things like boss monsters and quests. They also forcibly replace whatever your current title is (ha ha!), so usually they kind of show what you've been doing lately. You could switch them back to any other title you had earned, but you had to go to an NPC (technically a bard, who would sing a few lines about the previous player who used him) and pay him a few hundred moneys.
