Tab target = easy mode in PvP

    Dear SOTA team,

    Please take out tab targeting for PvP. You're already making PvP/safe zones, so why over-simplify combat? I feel like it dumbs-down an already mundane experience (see decks). I know this is pre-alpha, and i fully understand that the game is evolving...and i will support this game until the bitter end. However, most fans of tab targeting are likely to be those that don't PvP (ie; RPers, PvMers). Let them use tab targeting on mobs in their safe zones. Give the PvPers more complexity!

    I play keyboard only for the most part. Without the tab I can't target.

    I use it, so I don't agree.

    PvP demands that combatants be on equal footing. UO didn't have tab targeting and neither does one of the most successful hard-core MMOs, DarkFall. It's too simplistic to say "don't use it", and very offensive to someone voicing their input on the process.

    UO most certainly had a macro for next target, previous target, closest target, all sorts of things.

    If you never took advantage of any of those, you were needlessly gimping yourself.

    Are you saying to make the combat action and skill based like darkfall or Tera or Wildstar? Reason DF doesn't have tab targeting is because it's about aiming and twitch combat. Neat idea, but is that what you mean?

    I agree with Murdock. Tab targeting isn't as challenging/fun as having to put in the effort to select each target. It makes skill level a little more dependent on the player rather than the gear/interface. I really enjoyed being able to take advantage of the line of sight you guys added.

    If tab targeting has to stay in for some PvP, would it be possible to make a variety of difficulty zones for PvP?

    Here's the idea...

    Beginner zone allows tab targeting while players are learning the ropes. As the progress the game begins to introduce the potential to lose gear and eventually full loot and no tab targeting.

    Double click fast moving targets would be a pain. It is ok for FPS. But not adecuate for mmos. IMHO.

    I don't think UO had tab targeting initially. If I recall correctly it was added in several years after the game launched.

    Again, if you want a challenge, don't use it. But you don't want that, but rather, you want to make it harder for others to target you.

    Understandable, but a bit craven.

    maybe an alchemist can make some kind of flash potion or smoke screen to temporarily lose tracking. It might be thought of already but we do not know much about alchemy.

    I appreciate your passion but I'm not sure I understand the hostile tone. There's no need to insult anyone by calling them cowardly.

    As you progress I think it's great that the game becomes more challenging. Having the option to opt out of the areas should satisfy those who don't have an appreciation for non-tab targeting. I don't understand what the cons are that would make it such a bad thing.

    Not at all. It was a defined macro from the very start, but for some reason, many players never made use of many of them.

    But you can have what you want immediately, if it's a challenge you are looking for. Don't use it. If you want to deny it to others, then your motives are more questionable.

    Please explain. If I enter a zone that doesn't allow tab targeting and you opt to enter the zone that doesn't allow tab targeting (if it's possible), how does that give me the upper hand?

    I'd rather they first let me click target an enemy more than 15 feet away

    Tab targeting will be available to everyone. If you want an extra challenge, you elect not to use it. If you still prevail, then you'll know you're just more uber than the rest of us.

    Mission accomplished. Greater challenge sought, greater challenge achieved.

    It certainly is a handicap. It would be much more convenient than to establish predetermined rules. The more the variety the better I say! Attract as many people as possible. Many players will come for the PvE and RP experience and end up getting introduced to PvP when they might not expect it. It's just a preference, a play style some people enjoy.

    It's not something that would make or break my game play experience. It would most definitely add variety. It's just one more flavor for everyone to try :)
