Was just thinking that what could really add further depth to the economy and demand for tamed creatures would be if there were tames that could benefit outside of combat. These special tames would be useless in combat, but could be valuable in other ways that make the risk/reward worth it to take them out into adventuring areas.

    There is precedence for this:

    • Hunting dogs could give a bonus to area animal spawn time or like a very low meticulous chance when Field Dressing

    • Gulls or white ducks (or a north american black duck [please!]) could function as a random possible lesser fishing node effect generator as they are "hunting" for their lunch and point you to where to cast your line

    • Pigs could assist in Foraging like truffle hunting pigs do
      • Truffles in game as a rare chance and huge cooking bonus ingredient????

    • I mean, who doesn't want a pet beaver while cutting down trees? They do it naturally, so naturally there would be more chances to find additional random useful wood

    • How can wandering minstrels and bards play Kenny Loggins' "I'm Alright" if there aren't little gophers in game running around? Of course they give a bonus to mining speed, they be digging holes around already. Well, okay that's a bit of a stretch, gophers aerate soil anyway so they would better serve a relationship with farmers - but canaries don't have to be the go-to, In Sweden, Russia, Finland, and Norway, some within the mining industry have trained dogs to find ore bodies. Geozoology began to take off during the 1970s, as dogs were used mainly to find nickel sulphides close to the surface to fulfill demand from the region's burgeoning steel industry.

there's precedent for that with the wisp summon in the moon tree, which will flash green and lead you to harvestable nodes

iiinnn the circle... the circle...offfff liiiffffeeeeeeee

Gives people a reason to go back to lower tier areas for harvesting and collecting, and obviously, being lower tier animals, they would be very very easy to catch and give low level tamer players a foot in the door into pet trading.
