Ranged suffer the same problems with leather, the only saving grace is they can play ranged in cloth. I think since this is a classless system that having pets would be just as viable for the heavier armor types.

Cloth has more focus mw and stat builds than any other type of armor also mages use int as a primary stat so they will have higher max focus pools. So in summary the best tamers will be the mages, then anyone else wearing cloth then who ever rolls for focus.

The viable fix that I see is that pets take a %of max focus. Kinda a flat tax if you will
