Upgrades of the same deed to a larger type will likely be allowed. Transfers of tax-free status between two deeds will likely not be allowed. Just need to get confirmation on that from the Devs.

Yes we did state that tax free lot conversion would be possible in the game. That statement was made in a hangout earlier in development before we started selling lots in the Add-On store, not just through pledges. Because of that change we need to have a design session in order to work through the parameters of how this might still work while still maintaining the intent of only providing tax free lots via pledges.

If we do manage to still make this work then it will most likely work similar to what Sir Frank outlines. We would not support swapping tax free status, only conversions for a fee.

But again this still has to be thought out so be patient while we try to figure it out.

DarkStarr: Glad to have confirmation of that :D I'm thinking that the in-game gold cost of upgrading my tax-free town lot to a city one will be quite high, though :(

    The way I see this:

    - I have a tax free village lot
    - I buy a town lot from store

If I'm forced to upgrade the "lot" in-game, what would the outcomes be?

    - If the cost was the same as a town lot to upgrade you would then lose the benefit of the village lot.
    - If the cost was to upgrade was more than the town lot due to the tax free status, not only do you lose the benefit of the the village lot but also the future potential gain of tax free status.

if the answer is any of those two options then the rational person would not upgrade anyway and just run multiple properties.

If the upgrade cost was the cost of a town lot less the price of the village lot (makes sense) then you would do the upgrade. The issue is that there is still have a town lot deed that can never be tax free. The solution is to sell the town lot deed to a private buyer in game for the same or slightly less than it costs in-game and then do the upgrade the legitimate way. I would then take my change and buy another village lot.

I have to say that you will just create a broken system by fixing the tax free system against the deed. It makes more sense to just have the tax free mechanism independent from the lot deed so it can be applied to whatever lot you own.

Will do, although I suspect the developers will take some time to carefully consider upgrade pricing. Pricing lot upgrades too high or too low might have a negative impact on the game economy...

Buying a tax free lot (deed) from the store is not possible, and not going to be possible.

Or, are you saying you think they should do this?

Because Darkstarr has already nixed that.

Price of village lot = A
Price of town lot = B
Price of city lot = C

Price of upgrade from a village to a town = B-A
Price of upgrade from town to city = C-B

....well you get the general idea.

In economic terms this is the only real way the price could work without breaking.

It just feel that really complicated and potentially economic breaking rules could be put in place to try and fix an issue when there isnt an issue in the first place.

sorry I miss typed, you buy normal deed. If you read through the comment you will get the general idea.

    Edit:
You basically sell off your town lot in game for roughly the same price as a town lot, then use part of that money to do the upgrade then purchase another village lot in-game.

Any other way and there is absolutely no point in upgrading........it would end up costing you more money than the lot is worth.

The tax free status as to link with the tax free plot. So to upgrade that lot you would presumably go to a NPC seller were you hand in your village Lot deed + Gold needed for the upgrade and you receive a tax free Town lot.
They cannot link the Tax free status to the account because of the Multi lot ownership, it would mean you could place a city lot that cost you only $1050 were another founder/Benefactor paid a high Pledge to get it.

Technically a city lot is $2100 , they are just half price at the moment. The price of Baron starts at $3000 so your actually talking about $900 ($400 if you include the price of citizen) difference for which you get piles of items.

Anyway, if you read my post above, you will see that the player would still achieve the same result of transferring tax free status via other means.

Personally I don't really see the issue. I'm just kind of pointing out the obvious in terms of what people will do, at which point I struggle to see the reasoning in spending time trying to prevent people from doing something when they will achieve the same result by doing things a different way.

It certainly isn't on my radar as something that is overly important.

Great point. Something else the devs will have to consider in their coding to prevent. I do appreciate your opinion.
